On the rs4 3 series, you cant use a threaded or sg shaft rear exhaust engine, only standard shaft. You can use the hpi nitro star or if you really wnat a good one use the new 0s tz standard shaft and you can get the pipe from rd logics. here the links to check it all out and maybe i can find the right side exhuast from os too.
heres the engine: http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJFY6&P=V
heres the tuned pipe from rd logics to use with it http://www.rdlogics.com/cgi-bin/cate...35R&type=store
even though the pipe says rtr3 it works for all of the rs43's.

New RS4-3 18SS here..........not bad so far

rear exhaust engine
my evo rs4 has a rear exhaust hpi xs engine, faster than the 15FE , i once used also the nova R type and it fits good with a centax clutch, and R40 pinions (18 and 21), it could be faster by fitting the 41 and 45 spur gears

hpi rs4 3 evo same as ofna cd3?
Sorry for this post but I am new to nitro. Is the hpi rs4 3 evo the same as the ofna cd3? The chassis layout seems the same but I can see that the suspension systems are different. Can that be the only difference? I just wanted to know. Thanks.

no the clutch style of the ofna is diffrent and better. its a push aka centax style clutch with allows you to use a diffrent shaft style of engine(sg shaft) in which these are comeptition engines. if your trying to decide which kit to get, it all depends on what usage you want out of the car.

Thanks Jye,
I have the hpi rs4 3 evo (RTR). I only use it for fun not racing but I saw a deal at stormerhobbies for a ofna cd3 or ld3 for $199 (RTR). I was thinking about it. If not I would tinker with the hpi rs4 3 a little. I wanted to try out nitro cars but was uncertain since it involved alot of tuning for the engine. But I thought the hpi rs4 3 would be a great basher or entry level car into nitro.

I noticed someone say stock gearing is made for accel, with new gears what are the top speed differences and what kind of gearing?

the other spur gears you can use are the 45 1st gear and 41 2nd gear. i suggest you use the red 19 and 23 pinions. as far as new top speed i cant really say, my car has been messed up for a while but i did do the switch to 45 and 41 just havent had my car running well enough to tell. but it should be a very noticable diffrence.

HPI RS4 3 driveshafts breaking
Hi,
I've been racing a HPI Nitro RS4-3 since February this year.
I bought it used, with a HPI .12 RXS engine installed.
In this trim, it was very fast, but handled poorly.
It used to manage about 3 or 4 , 5 minute races before breaking the rear drive shaft.
Eventually, I replaced the engine with the less powerful .12 RSC engine.
The car became much more flexible, and not very much slower.
Rear drive shaft breakages now occure every 8 or 9 races.
Is this normal wear and tear?
Is there a beefed up rear drriveshaft part I can use?
Is there any obvious adjustment or setting I am missing?
Any help gratefully recieved.
Thanks.
