Even though we don't race in the rain in Australia, I'm toying with the idea when I get my new 733TE of building my current 733 into a rain car for a bit of fun on those rainy days
What sort of tyres do people run when racing in the wet and where do you get them?

Basically there are 4 types of rain tires for 1/10:

-full wet, these are the kissling tires, kissling is the brand. They work exceptionally well but are quite pricey.
-Intermediate, there are quite a few out there but the most popular ones are the Dunlops, sold by LRP.

-Damp/intermediate, RP30 tires, just regular electric tourer tires. When it's a bit damp they work very well, the plus they have compared to aqua's is they still work ok if it starts drizzling again.
-Damp, Aqua's these are very soft foam tires, available from several regular tire makers like Capricorn, Matrix etc.

Really? Rain tires that is crazy! I'd like to see a 1/10 in the rain looking like its riding on rails!

Do the Kissling's need LOTS of standing water to work properly? How well do they wear? Where do you buy them?
Do the LRP or Schumacher rain tyres come any wider for rear fitment and how well do they wear considering they're designed for an EP car?

When the track is like in the first video Roelof posted you want to run kisslings, if there isn't any standing water on the track no more you will destroy them within a couple of laps.
You will probably need to look for a european shop for the tires.

You don't need wider rears, they are also designed for nitro and driven in the right conditions they don't wear fast. Run them in the dry and they will wear very fast. I've had mine since 2007 and done about 5 wet races with them.

AARCMCC rules do include running in the rain. The problem is that during qualification the rules state that the qualifiers must be under the same conditions for ALL drivers.

Once the finals start then the lower heats (I think it's 1/4 and below) will be put on track in the rain.

Why we don't see it much is that we dont often have consistent days of drizzle.

Thanks. Had a look at the AARCMCC rules. It still specifically states "no standing water"
Would be great to run a local clubbie on a rain day!!!
The Kisslings's are just too expensive for a fun project car. If I needed them to race it would be different
Had a look at the Pit Shimizu Dunlop DJ01 D20 which I noticed Schumacher & LRP are selling as their RAIN tyre, but can't find anywhere that sell them except Scumacher or LRP's premounts which I assume come with a control insert for open EP
Also, I noticed they're 26mm wide. What sort of rims do they mount on & what sort of inserts are required on the 200mm car?

@Roelof: As you used the Aquas how wet was it there?


I always use the LRP Dunlops, these are good tyres for full wet and wet surface. But if the track dries, then you will damage the tyres really fast.

In europe we race even if it snows...

But racing when it rains is not so fun!! It's slow, except with aqua tires and a when the track is drying. But the worst is that it gives a lot of work on the car after!! bearings, engine and radio... they suffer a lot!!

In the UK we regularly race in the wet so i am speaking from experience,
Kisslings are awesome but only in standing water, anything less and they just get destroyed. I think only availible direct from Mr Kissling.

Schumacher/pit shumizu tires work very well in the wet and right up till the point of dry patches forming when drying out, No need for differant width rears the set of premounts on 26mm revlite wheels are just right.

Awesome driving skills...

Only every seen that once in Sydney! All we could do in the rain was keep off the racing line, then later I used a dremel to groove foams for a young friend of ours. It worked quite well compared slicks.
