RB V12: What % nitro?
I just bought a V12 along with some 30% Byrons which was recommended by my LHS. The manual from RB indicates a maximum of 20%, do I need to shim the head, run a different Turbo plug?
How much power is 30% really worth and does durability really suffer? The RB manual indicates accelerated aging with higher nitro.

On my humble opinion, unless you are runing on a open outlaw 200mm racing category and want the ultimate power, its not worth the 30% nitro fuel ...
You might use some good brand 16% nitro racing fuel ... not more ... thats all you need, the rest its on your hands on the TX and on the setup.
cya !

Since we are in the same region this might help. I ran my Rody V12 at toledo this weekend and ran a .1 and .3 shim, #6plug and 30% odonnell. It ran like a raped ape. Last week I only ran it with a .1 shim and it was better for sure with more shims. On RB's website it says the .12 are setup for 16% and to add .1 for every 5% you go up on the nitro. Or you can just stay with 16% but I have never tried it.

Ok....here's the deal.....the part numbers for the shims are..p/n 1700-020...
I'm running the std v12......non turbo.....1 shim added...Sidewinder 30% world championship formula(which has ALOT to do with how well the engine runs and tunes)
this motor is WAY faster than my OS turbo even dreamed of being.......Second gear on my r40 comes on like an afterburner........
Go RB!!! GO Sidewinder!!

mine is the turbo version, just removed the head and found one silver shim on it. Not sure of the size but my question is by adding another shim, will i increase power or take it away. I know that by having less shims the compression goes up, but where do i find my medium?

Thanks for all the great advice!!! Since this is my first nitro, after 1 year of electrics, I think I'll run the remainder of this season with 20%. If I am little slow, I will make the switch to 30% next year, since it seems tuning becomes more critical with 30%.
A couple other questions:
1) Do you have to repeat the entire run-in procedure when switching to another %?
2) How can you determine if a shim is necessary, do you just try it?

to determine how many shims you have to check and see how your glow plug looks like after every run

is my v12 a turbo??? because it came with a regular glow plug and on the box it says "1700-000410" and it says "RB V12 3T/SA/BN/SPT/TIR"
so how can it be a turbo if it doesn't use a turbo glow plug?
