I tried to use the search funktion in this forum but no matter what I type in I always get over 500 result topics. How can I combine two search strings (keywords) with a "and" semantic?

My oiriginal question shows the title. Today i discovered that there are full cermaic bearings.

In the last few days I was thinking about to add a set of ceramic bearing to my Kyosho RRR but I still have a "price for what you get" problem.

The Boca ceramic bearing which I would buy cost about 200€ here. Are ceramic bearing really worth that price difference? I used 20€ bearings sets till now. Replaced them after about 10 liters completely. For 20€ not such a big deal.

I think there is no doubt that ceramic bearings are better then standard bearing but is the higher price really justified. What should I think of full ceramic bearing?

I also discovered that there a full ceramic thrust bearings (for clutch). Are they more resistable? Does is make sense to use ceramic bearing in that place?

IMO, you can spend your money much wiser in other places than on full ceramic bearings, they are plenty cool, and very pricey. but in a model racing car i dont think you would notice any sort of difference whatsoever over a traditional steel bearing.

same with "hybrid ceramics" steel race/ ceramic balls, i highly doubt you would notice a difference in performance.

the appeal to ceramics is the durability, resistance to corrosion and "brinnelling" in certain applications. a maintained high-grade steel bearing will perform just as well.

there are surface treatments (such as micro-blue) that can be done to bearings that will show better results in performance. it too, is expensive.

Another bearing brand to consider is Acer. Take a look at what they have to offer.

Ceramics are very nice, but as far as if they are worth the expense is really based on your lap times and how much you think ceramics are going to help you. If you're already very consistent and you're looking to be maybe a fraction of a second faster, then maybe ceramics will help you - but maybe not enough to notice. If your lap times are not very consistent yet, then as Turbo9000 stated, they are better ways to spend 200€.

I've run both Boca and Acer ceramic bearings. I bought them just because some other guys were running them and I wanted to try them for myself. They all said that ceramics made the drive train smoother and when I turned the wheels by hand, the drive train certainly felt smoother. Was I any faster? With my skills, I doubt it.

Most of the top drivers put their stock bearings they get with the kit and run with them, when they feel bad they change them. spend the money in other places, make sure good radio servo's and tires

Then my question for you Peter is: If kit bearings and ceramics where the same price, which bearing would the top drivers run?

i say if u dont want to spend the 200 just measure the one that all the pullys ride on and at least go for that less resistance there is all ways a +
ive got the full BOCA kit in my 4r and it definatly rolls smoother than the stock ones, but a must i dont think so i just had some money to burn at the time

If a mercedes and Hyundai were the same price which one would you buy? Okay all kidding aside most top drivers don't pay squat for their parts or bearings but not all run ceramic! now the capricorn comes with ceramics so I guess those drivers are running ceramics. yeah they are better but if your chosing pocket money or your families dinner money then theres your answer!! if you have the money and lots of it then go for the ceramics

I just some Acer Teflasonic steel bearings recently, as I figured they're well sealed against dirt and dust, making them maintenance free. Or am I deluded?

They are definitely easy to keep clean and well lubed up , but maintenance free don't think so , also just depend on the track condition . last weekend we had the Sydney gp , track was super clean , but tire wear was very high 3 to 5 mm . we must have blown out few tires (tire dust ) off our chassis .

thanks for your replies so far. I get your point.
However I think I gonna spent the money for 1 ceramic bearing kit and make myself an opinion or I'll try the capricorn car of a friend of mine :-) (didn't knew it has ceramic bearings). Already heard it runs very smooth and accelerates very quick but the acceleration should be a matter of the gearing the have.

Are there ceramic bearings which are better then others despite BOCA and Acer?

All the big bearing manufacturers,, Timken, SKF, NSK, etc. should be pretty similar i would think. it wouldnt hurt to call a bearing supplier in your area with your bearing dimensions and quantities and request pricing and availability before you order from acer or boca. you might find some cheaper and have more options of grades, seal types/shields. i would definitely shop around before spending such considerable about of money.
