me too, i really want to get the quattro going. I tore it down yesterday, only to find that somebody has replaced most of the original hardware with aluminum hardware. & Let me tell you, grubby 20 year old Al hardware is a devil:flaming: The chassis has also been swiss cheesed for ultimate weight savings. I'm going to see if my buddy can make a carbon fiber radio tray and new chassis plate for it.:D

So naturally, Ive been thinking about doing a brushless conversion, but my only drawback is i need to find some foam donuts to replace the old foam already on the wheels. I have 4-5 sets of wheels for it, most of the foam is in rough shape though.

Where the heck do ya find foam donuts??? :o

funny thing is, back in the day (early/mid 90's) it was hard to find mounted/trued tires for these cars...now it is the oposite. I have been looking for donuts as well. Does the quattro use the same wheels as the 6000?

Yep, They are interchangeable.. and i think have the same offset..I'll have to double check. and i also believe that the excel front wheels will also fit the quattro. Not sure about the rears though.

I have access to a large machining lathe at work, so im sure i could rig up a fixture to hold the wheels so i could spin them. Looks like all it would take is some type of hex (a bolt) and a nut on the other end. Then get a tire cutting insert of some sort and true them up.

I suppose one could buy a sheet of foam and go to town with a hole-saw to make some home-brew donuts:smile:

Nice looking rollers. I like the look of the vintage iron. I had one that I was going to restore but I ended up selling it last year. The wheels for these cars have a 12 point style hex drive, no?

Thanks!

Yeah,
The 5-spoke 6000 series wheels have a 12-pt hex. The original BBS-ish quattro wheels have a 6-point hex.

Its a lucky day! I opened my email this morning to find a complete quattro instruction manual!
