I have something for you guys to ponder, lend opinions, etc. With the big push to be "green" and more and more tracks being shut down/moved due to surrounding residents complaining about the noise from nitro engines, do you think nitro engine racing will survive? If anyone has not noticed, there are now electric versions of the nitro engine cars in both offroad and now onroad. On top of that, there are more and more electric conversion kits for nitro engine cars hitting the market seemingly every day.

Lets not make this a bash-fest, just a friendly discussion about where nitro racing is going.

One thing I still don't get. How are toxic, heavy metal filled, explosive lithium batteries more "green"?

2 Stroke engines are not known for being "green" friendly.. they waste a lot of fuel and oil passes right through them. But alcohol (major component of our fuel) is about the "greenest" thing you can burn in an IC engine.. Anyone ever done any emmisson testing on these engines??

I know plenty of people that are scared of burned up escs & will gladly drop their v-spec back on the track after its 15th gallon. I think nitro has its place in areas with a long nitro season. If you can race march-october then its a blast. If your going indoors from september-may then the li//bl thing is a good option.

It's not that people like them too much. It's that there is NO better option right now (talking about real cars). Yes, there are other, much more expensive and troublesome options but no better ones. When a better mousetrap comes along, people will buy it.

As for RC, there have been electrics around since RC began, yet nitro is still strong. Tracks close up all the time, only to have new tracks pop up. Nitro isn't going anywhere for a long time.

Very good point/observation!!! I think this is why there will be a big push soon for LiFe batteries.

I can see nitro engines fading away from actual competitive racing.

Theres definitely people out there who dont race competitively and just like to smell nitro and hear motor revs over gear whine.

So i believe there will always be nitro model car kits available. just probably not high end super race engineered kits.

To qualify myself, I am a big nitro onroad guy. I have racing nitro for almost a decade. But, I have noticed in my travels to some other areas where nitro is slowly disappearing or being phased out as the more quiet electric cars are being favored. I know that there is a place for each in the sport but the drumbeat for making r/c racing all electric is starting to beat now.

im nitro onroad also for about 6 years now and if the race scene gos away for nitro ill just bash em i started electric and will never go back
