Also, what Pipe/manifold would you recommend? Novarossi recommends #9886, but does this performance change with an onroad manifold?

Both manifold and pipe are different. Though someone else will have to tell you what those differences bring. What I can tell you is the on road pipe is shorter in length and smaller in diameter.

Default Engines for Pans

My 2 cents: When we started talking about running these cars Lon was the baseline as he had experience with the P8C car and the Motonica Engine and exhaust. I believe it was a Nova Rossi 3 port with a standard plug that he got with his cars.

We were told at different times that this motor was being replaced from Moto and would not be available. (to my knowledge, this hasn't happened yet.) In addition, some interested racers, me ;-), had a car without an engine. We decided to limit the engines to be similar to the one supplied by Moto, 3 port, standard plug, and set a price limit of $250. ( have a O'Donnell 3pt that seems very competitive, I'm too lazy to mess with headers and pipes and use what ever I have or is cheap!!)

These, and other rules, were never never formalized or teched, I guess the thought was it was not necessary. Cars were run at times with more ports, turbo plugs, and probably higher $ motors, but those racing at the time did not seem to think it to be an advantage.

(IMHO-it will matter if someone wins consistantly with more power, because more power is always better, you just need to figure out how and when to use it! )

FYI: The off road motor and pipe can be used without problems but the header will not work, different design for the engine mounting direction.

It's supposed to be a fun class, so have FUN!

After spending the better part of a week trying to purchase a P8c I have discovered that the car is not available. Finally I contacted Motonica Italy directly, and this is what they said:

"We really thank you for your interest and passion towards this category.

However, at present we are focusing all our efforts on the new car for next
year...

This does not mean we are going to discontinue the car, but that we want to
improve it and we are willing to work for this in the near future.

...We are working on both models, suspended and classic, for next year 2014.

If we have updates during the year we will inform customers via our website
or distributors."

Mr history..........Brad Palmer in Michigan is importing the WRC F1 electric car...WRC also has a 1/8 pan nitro car..........If Motonica has no interest in selling cars,...we get the masses to move to something else......I will text message Brad tomorrow to see if he can get the WRC cars.........

On the Motonica website there is no P8C anymore only the Extreme 2. I gues the (aged) P8C is out of production and replaced with the Extreme 2. (the combo vintage is still on the website though)

Last weekend I drove a few laps with an electric Motonica Extreme. The car could use a better setup as the ballance between onpower and offpower steer was off but it was still fairly easy to drive considering the setup.

One thing I noticed, the differential of the Motonica is much smoother than the WRC. I have a nitro WRC GT Due (didn't drive it yet though) and I can feel the gears grabbing eachother slightly. I didn't feel that with the Motonica. The motonica was very smooth almost like a ball diff. I am not sure if it matters much, afterall the GTdue has won many races, but it was something I noticed.

Default DFX Premium

So I am looking at Fosters new DFX Premium pan car and I noticed it does not come with a clutch. Does someone have a recommendation for a clutch bell for this thing?

This car looks very nice and the quality of the parts seems very good. It should be fun to run.

I asked Motonica specifically about ordering a P8C 2 Extreme. They sent the above response. We emailed back and forth a couple of times yesterday and I was made to understand that there are no classic pan cars in stock and are no longer in production.

Hi Jeff

I am now looking at other cars and am leaning toward the DXF Premium, but also like the BP Racing Evo 2, and Forfaster Z1.

I have seen several BP clutches online. Because they have a 2wd pan car i assume they sell a clutch for the classic class. Here are a few examples but I don't have specifics:

Default PISSED!

Clearly the management at Motonica needs to look into a mirror and ask themselves, IF I'M NOT HERE TO SELL CAR KITS AND PARTS, WHY AM I HERE? What do we have to do to get them to support what they sell?
I try to send them a message today but won't go. I pretty much feel as if I've wasted enough of my time here.
Jeff, Motonica clutch works good, hope you can find one. I'm a little pissed at Motonica in case you didn't know. If you can't find one, I can get you going. Ned can show the path.
Hope to see you soon.

I looked at all three of those cars also when I could not get a P8C. The DFX was availible through a major supplier (the Border) that I have had good luck with plus the red parts in the DFX just looks cool! ha.

Any chance off-road type bells from anyone will work?

I really just need to find a "easy" source for the bell and the pinion. The clutch I can figure out.

Thanks

The Bp clutch looks pretty much like a Motonica. There is a aftermarket off road clutch that is the same thing but I can't recall the name. Garen can tell you.
