Fun evening

Wow! That must have been fun! I knew Bob and his son fairly well, but Gary Kyes was my main guy (thanks to Das!). The Pro 180 was an underrated car in the Mid-West, but a bunch of us from Toledo had great results and won or did very well in Club, regional, and MidWest Series races.

I ALMOST got a car on eBay last night but lost out by a few $.... Sure would like to get at least a pod and front end! Please let me know if you come across any! I want to run it in our Pan Class!!

7. Does Zuch have one?
8. Rick Davis if we can pry his hands from wrenching on his 1/8 open long enough to run a 5 min..qualifier...
9. Gottfried bought one?.....Yes/No?
10. SuperNed when he can move to Ohio for good......
Looks like a full field this year......should be big fun.....Someoone nudge Hammer in the ribs.........he can run 3 cars......
Not sure II is gonna run Pan. At the end of last year he said it was messing up his driving 4WD. Don't think Zuch ever got one, but imagine he would have the same problem as II. I'm pretty sure Brent got one (two, if I know him!!) I heard there is interest in buying my car and I minght try to talk Joe T into getting it! Then we'll have THREE Joe's: Canada Joe, Big Joe, and T-BONE!!! (Lon may let his grandson(s) run his cars.)

Right now I'm planning on the Toledo Midwest Race and Portage for sure, maybe more. I hope there's a Toledo club race on July 1st 'cause I'll be in town that weekend. If youn can get off work you should go the the Model Engineering Show with Herb, Joe and me. Really neat stuff!!

Brent G bought 2 P8C with the Nova 3 port vintage engine. Last I spoke with him he said he was going to take one to Florida to run some laps.

Looks like it could be a cheater car to me. The rear lower arms can flex easier than the P8C and my DXF. That may be "suspension".....
I think the rear axle should be one-piece, straight, like Lon II's F1 rule!!

They are getting ready to review it over at rcmag-the french specialist site. This setup has been used on other cars as well, the car serpent is testing has this setup - although theirs has aluminum lower "Arms" right now. And I think if there were any flex, it would be negligible.

NOT "no cars" just "OLD SCHOOL CARS"!! ;-) I just saying that, as racers do, the "Pan Class" keeps improving (= get faster) WHY?

Some of us just want to have fun racing one-eight scale on-road cars and not really worry about speed, just a level playing field. Or at least that's what I thought.

As Rick mentioned last year, allowing suspension cars with "locked shocks" killed the pan class back in the day (I believe I understood him correctly.) and when you compare where this class appears to be going...

Anyway, I'm just making dumb a$$ comments, trying to get this thread going!

....dont think anyone will try to sneak in a locked-suspension car..........our real problem is we cant get all the cool new European pan cars without getting a second mortgage on our homes..........the 3 port motor rule/single speed will keep the speeds in check.........this will be the most fun/bang for your buck class this year...we just need to sabotage II's car..Ned..you turn his HSN needle out 3 extra turns and i'll superglue his tires to his set-up board....that'll slow him down.............

I just came across this thread by chance while checking to see if MORR is hosting a race this year (guess not).

I can say as one who stopped 1/8 and could not keep up, the biggest issue was no track time to set the car up. No way to break an engine in before a race (suburban home neighborhood).

The appeal to me in this new car seems to be that there is very little 'setup' is that right? I could plop it on the track and race without having to worry if there is an air bubble in a shock or if I have the right front springs and ride height, toe in, etc bla bla bla.

Also, two potentially dumb questions. They have a diff yes? no? I recall from the 1/10 2wd days that keeping a diff happy was a full time job (at least for this novice)

Lastly, they are single speed but is there is one-way bearing? Do they freewheel when you are off the gas like a 2 speed or do they engine-brake like a RTR single speed.

Is there a rulebook for this class? Or is it kinda just a gentleman's agreement? Who regulates the class?
