Default HPI RS4 3 Evo Vs Traxxas 4-tec 3.3

I am looking at getting back in to some Nitro RC. I used to own an older Super Nitro rs4.

Which is a better car overall the HPI RS4 3 Evo or the Traxxas 4-tec 3.3???

I liked my old RS4 I used to have. I read that the new traxxas is faster but I am not sure on how durable they compare to HPI.

I am not to familier to a belt driven car either. The RS4 I had was shaft. It is a big differance?

Any help would be great!

I would say the 4-Tec is more durable and the 3.3 engine(think .20) is more power powerful(lots of torque) than the engine that come with with the HPI Evo. With that said the HPI is still a better performer and with it's plethera of hop-up parts, it much more capable of going from street basher to club race.

If you were a newbie, all together, I'd say either car is fine, but since you have some rc nitro experience with the HPI, I'd say go with what you already know/knew

My 2 cent.......

The previous 3 or 4 pages in the Nitro forum have threads either about the HPI Evo or comparison of the Evo to other bashers. You can't go wrong starting off with this car. Do a search for FastHarry.com he's the forum specialist on the HPI cars and it should lead you to all the threads dealing with car comparisons. Harry seems to always get into those threads....which is a good thing. I find him very helpful, funny, and knowledgable...not necessarily in that order

I also just want to make it clear that I'm not a HPI fanboy nor a Traxxas 4tec hater...these are just my opinons from what I've seen of these cars first-hand through club racing and from what my friends own. I don't onw either of these cars. In case you're wondering, I own a Kysoho FW-05 RR, an OFNA CD3, a Rebuilt MTX-2(with lots of Kawahara hop-ups) and two GS Vison Pro's. The latter of which, I still race with

I'd go with a RS4. As an owner of an RS4, I think its a great car. I had the 4Tec for about a month and then I sold it. There are no upgrades for the 4Tec really. The RS4 is plenty fast, trust me lol.

Didn't you once ask if there was a way to fit the 3.3 engine into a HPI Evo? I remember someone asking and since you said you owned a 4-tech...... If its not you, no biggie...just wanted to know whatever became of that. I think I already know by your statement though.

Nope, not me. I have a brand new OS 18 CVRX waiting to go into my RS4, just waiting on a carb for it.

I found a used Rs4 online. It is going for 150 right now, I imagine it will go with a final price of around 200$.

It loooks to be in good shape. It has an extra Tx, start kit, and an extra set of wheels.

Should I go for this one, or is it worth just getting a new one?

also I was thinking about saving up for one of the G4 evo. Any thoughts on this???

Here's one with buy now price of 169.00. If you have to go over $175 to get a used one, don't do it unless seller really hopped the car up and/or is including the original parts or bumpbox or charger or really importan stuff too.

Default 3.3 hpi mod

My first rc car was a 4 tec loved it then and now , later i bought evo 3 with a18 on it . blew the 18 and put a 3.3 modded on it now i can't run rubber tires on it any more only foams it will just shred them apart . the evo and modded 3.3 combo has been tuff to beat on sundays or any day. I turned servos around ,changed servo savers to make the slide carb work on the evo and some dremeling on the chassis and used the motor mounts off the evo also i just flip them up side down and took the easy start off and put a roto start on .

Several people have asked about putting a 3.3 in a RS4 Evo. It would be nice if you could show us some pictures of how you did it.
