I've a new-to-me Ofna Worlds II (and I'm new to Nitro). The engine at idle always seems to burble. Is this normal? If not what should I be checking?

I'm just curious to what you mean by "burble" ...Does it Bogg down? It might be too rich on the low end. Please elborate a little bit.

It idles a bit fast. It sounds blubbery, not a nice even tone. At a lesser setting on the low end it is almost impossible to start.

Adjust your idle so it isn't "fast" and tell me how that helps. I'm not sure i get what you mean by "blubblery" unless it is running too rich.

I would have to agree with TSR6. Lean up the bottom or lower your idle and just advance the throttle a little to get the engine started.

Yeah what he said, LOL. Blubbery can be good. If you punch the gas & it takes off good, cool. As long as you see blue smoke when you punch the gas.

Can somebody give some tips about having a larger fuel tank? From 75cc to 100cc. Aside extending its running time, can this affect engine temp.

oro27 - It really shoudn't affect running temp too much. Just make sure you have a good needle setting & make sure you have the pressure line attatched.

Also beware that you cannot race with a 100cc tank unless you put something in it so it only alows 75cc's.

This probably isn't the place for this, but I guess it is a general nitro question. A friend and I are just starting a parking lot track. The track is mainly electric, but there are a few nitro cars showing up. the one thing I notice is driving skill. The guys running the nitro cars can't seem to get through the layout cleanly. I understand alot of it is that they haven't run much except in parking lots and haven't had to setup for lines, slow to make corners, etc. The track is a small track 40x80. I try to make all the lanes at least 6-7ft wide. What I am wondering is this: 1) Can the nitro cars have a decent race on 40x80, 2) Will gearing these cars down a tooth or 2 allow them to have a better race (currently with stock gearing and their driving skills the nitros are getting 20 laps in 5 minute vs 25-26 laps for electric), 3) Is there anything else I can do to help these guys out? They haven't complained or anything, I would just like to help them have more fun.

One track i went to had a brake zone marked approaching the end of the straight away. This helped on that section, but the single best thing nitro guys can do is restrict their carbs. I did this at a recent race and it took my car from being nearly uncontrollable to being second qualifier. The problem with just about all nitro cars is that they are rediculously over powered. Restricting the carb mostly limits acceleration, but top end pretty much stays the same. try suggesting this to the guys who are having serious problems and to the ones who don't take you suggestion, just let them go and clear the path at the end of the straight.:D

I am surprised I haven't received more replies on this question. I figured there were alot of guys racing nitro cars that would have some input on this question. Maybe there isn't as many as I thought? :confused:

I race n ob4 nitro in australia and we found the same thing that the electric guys got a lot more laps then nitro guys..but slowly but surley as we make out nitro cats handle better we have pulled back the electric guys to the point we now do the same and sometimes 1 or 2 more laps at most meets thats the quicker nitro guys im talking about ..im not one of those yet:blush:

Thats what I noticed in my area too. I think one of the biggest things is getting use to not having the inherent drag brake of an electric motor.

I set my OB4 2spd to shift late enuff so that it stays in 1st gear for the twisties. The only time I see 2nd is on the main straight.
40x80 is real small, a local club here in NJ the track is 270 x170. They run 1/5th, 1/8th & 1/10th.

Plus dont electrics spool up quicker?
