Ratio of 1/8 to 1/10 at Roar Nationals?
I race Electric TC so I am not very well informed about nitro anything.
I was just surprised when I read this
"The race will be held Tuesday through Sunday, September 2-6. Many racers came out the preceding weekend for a Toledo club race. Despite ROAR's predictions, there is a huge turnout. A total of 115 1/8 scale racers signed up, split with 87 in the open class and 28 in Masters class. There were 102 racers signed up for 1/10 sedan."
115 1/8 102 1/10 I have been to about 5 different tracks in the area I live and never ever seen an on-road 1/8th scale car.
From the magazines, for sale ads online and numerous other sources I was led to believe that the number of 1/ 8th scale nitro drivers was small compared to 1/10 scale.
From what you have seen, what is the ratio of 1/8 to 1/10th nitro drivers regularly participating in some form of organized competition locally?

It's pretty even here in Southern California.... Some races has more 1/8th and some races are the opposite. I'm guessing Toledo has more local 1/8th racers since half of the entries for Nats are local sign ups...

Hmmm
Am I correct in assuming that all the 1/8 the Nitros have those wedge shaped bodies and the 1/10 sedan bodies?

We also have a permanent indoor carpet track, which runs year round, but the entries grow for the winter, as some of us pack our nitro cars away for next season.
Check out CORRC here on RCTech or the web site.

1/8th scale is not raced heavily in most areas at the local level. It takes a lot of money and work to run one every week so for local racing, TC is much more popular. Big races are a totally different story. Most local TC racers don't travel a lot while nearly all 1/8th racers do (you kind of have to). Plus this race is at Toledo which has a very strong local 1/8th program.
Had the two races NOT been combined I would not be surprised if the 1/8th nats had many more entries than the TC nats.

I, for one, would love to see how many 1/8 guys got shut out of this race because it was combined????.......

Actually i'd kind of like to see them together again next year. It's easier to get one week off for both events. Not to mention, since it was decided to combine the two. it took away from a great facility at Lincoln. So it would be great to see ROAR reward Lincoln with both next year. I know that they put in for it again.

Also to say that it would have been bigger if it was just 1/8th isn't fair. Last year at 301 there was about 125 1/8th entries, this event it's around 115, not a huge difference. Last years sedan nats was around 90 entries, this event just over 100. So, if we took the totals from lat year for both races, or even both races over the last couple of years you would have had an entry total that was pretty much the same.
The 1/8th racers that didn't make it in choose not to deal with the system .... IE the wait list. Every 1/8th open racer that chose to pay and go on the wait list made it into the race, and we still had a few 1/8th open spots when registration closed. How is that a shut out???

Valid points, let me rephrase. I know of at least two driver who when they went to sign up saw that the race was sold out and so made other plans.

Actually, that is NOT the reason for the combination of the two classes...
amazing how stories get thrown around.
Quoted from the actual thread here on RC Tech that announced the combination:
Due to hardships and a struggling economy and considering financial concerns for both host venues and ROAR, we are obliged to combine the fuel events into one venue and choosing a date that best suits travel and vacation scheduling.
