It depends on how much you practice and crash but atleast 100 bucks a race.

So is it safe to say that on the average active 1/8 scale driver will spend approximately close to $3000 annually?

no, gettting started will run you about $1500-$2000 the first year.

Kit- $500-600
Engine - $200-300
radio with servos- $300-500
Pipe- $100
Spares $100
Few sets of tires- $80
2 bodies- $60
fuel- $30
starterbox-$80
setup gauges- $150

after that probably $300-500 will cover your tires fuel and spares everywhere. stuff doesnt break as much as you think it would.

Also, Keep in mind. If you are just Starting out. You don't need the " Latest & greatest " Car , motor & pipe set. You could save ALOT of Money By finding a local Racer who is switching Brands Or Updating Models. Just a thought.

Go to a local track when there is a race and ask around for someone selling their car/parts. That's usually the best place to get a bargain.
