Default PB9 restoration.

This is a PB9 international, it came up for auction on eBay, it was the first nitro car I bought 29 years ago, It's also the actual PB9 I owned back then too, how freaky is that? I know because I made all the alloy parts at school, servo mounts, body post's and nylon fuel tank post's too, I can still remember drilling the servo mount hole slightly out of line

It's in a mess, most of it will need parts made as PB went out of business years ago, I found a website that can help track down parts for it but I can make most of what's needed but a new set of wheels and tyres will be necessary.

here's some pix of how it looks.

A little history of the PB series of cars (if anyone is interested)

The first car shown is the model after my one, it has the same OPS engine I used too, arrr the memories.

http://www.ymr.no/pb.htm

Got the mid section started,

The rear wheels look like this, chipped edges and scratched.

After the rim edge was cut back 2mm and T cut inside, these are 1/8 stock car foam tyres, a perfect fit, the front foams will need cutting to length and the outside diameter will have to be ground down 5mm.

Just got these nice sheets of hand made glass fibre from Razor (buddy that works with fibreglass), he sent two different shades so I could chose the one closest to the original chassis colour, didn't charge me for them either, what a top bloke.

got the front chassis plate cut:

Razor really did a super job of matching the colour to the original.

finished all the rims, these where the only foam tyres I could find so the fronts will need the outside diameter ground down but I'll do that when the car is finished so I get it level.

Time to sort the diff out:

One of the cars previous owners thought it a good idea to use pipe grips on the diff to remove the spur holder!!!!!

Only thing to do here is turn it down on the lathe

The gears are in perfect condition (result) here are the internal parts

And if you're interested how they sit in the housing

Here's the diff, I think it looks crap half alloy and gold so it's decision time, send it away for re-anodising or cut all the gold off?

I needed a 30 year old OPS side exhaust engine as that's the motor I used back then, after God know's how many emails I found one NIB in the States.

The new 30 year old OPS

Just got this vintage radio off eBay, it was found in a loft by a guy clearing a house, lol

It's new and never been used, the servo's are so slow it takes 2 seconds for them to go from EP to EP, but it's what we used 30 years ago, lol lol

got the front hubs sorted with new bearings and cleaned up, servo mounts cleaned and fitted and all the black plastic resurfaced and shinny:

Got the roll bar supports, engine mounts, brake caliper, tank mounts and servo mounts restored and fitted:

The tie rods have had it:

I cut down some savage rods to make new ones:

I also dropped all the parts in caustic that are going to the anodisers

Are you planning on driving it once you've finished or are going to keep it as a static model?

I'm pleased to hear it! I've always found it abit of a shame when people restore things like that then just leave them.

I just wanted to tell you I think you are doing a real fine job. Nice to see your old piece coming together. I am a big fan of these older models. Look foward to seeing the completed project.
