Broken R40 Parts?

I'm going to be getting a HPI R40 in about a week. I'm not new to nitro touring, I ran a NTC3 in the FL State Series for 2 seasons and I've decided to get something a little better. So, anyone have any suggestions for a new HPI owner, and what parts have you broken?

You might want to try to post in the R40 forum, you might get more responses

My friend runs a R40 over at the Kissimmee track and has broken a CVD, pulled the pivotballs through the knuckle, broke a shock body in half. Also when he was assembling the car the one way bearing fell right through the over sized 2speed housing.

I have the HPI R40, and let me tell you, I will never buy another HPI again, if this is how they handle things. After I put my R40 together, the oneway bearing in the two speed fell out. Its suppost to be pressed in. I'm still waiting two weeks later for HPI to send me a new two speed. I got lucky, and a local machine shop made a custom two speed housing for me. The shocks are junk, the clutch, throw it out and install a Mugen clutch. CVD's? Junk.

The car has no top end, and you can't get enough gearing for it. Handles like a dream, but out of the box, it will get smoked by a Mugen, NTC3, Serpent, G4, on a big track.

They are good at making you buy upgrades, but a STOCK OUT OF BOX car, its horrible on a big track like Full Throttle speedway in Kissimme Florida....

I would tend to believe this. For smallist tracks, it has excellent gearing though.

That's odd my friend Carl outruns nearly everything at the Kiss. & Lakeland tracks with his R40. What engine are you running? I have a Novarossi MR-12 and a Rossi R12 black pixi that I can use.

Perhaps your friend is lucky to have one of those engines like Motorman's RTU where the engine is able to rev at close to 45,000 rpm... Then anything is possible.

What main was he in this past weekend? The only R40 able to make A mains at Kissimme is Dave Franklin, and his R40 is for sale.

I run an RB Concept engine, brand new. No R40 is winning there, not stock.

he didn't run this weekend. he ran at the inaugural race though. His car handles like it's on magnets.

Give one a try then...maybe it will work out for you.

the plastic tends to just crack in coldish weather. snaps at the angles (ex: upper bulkhead/shock tower mount)

jscamry 12-03-2003 09:43 PM

how come Franklin's R40 is for sale? Is he keeping the NTC3?
