Well, another amazing nitro onroad weekend with my Velox V10 (Eleven)
This time the event : 2nd Stage -Nitro Onroad Chilean Championship 2013
Classes : 1/10 Nitro Sedan (IFMAR Rulebook) and 1/8 Onroad 3T (1/8 open nitro chassis, but with 3 ports engines only and 16% nitro fuel).
My classes : 1/10 Nitro Sedan
Saturday was full practices, i headed to track by 8am, arriving by 9am and practiced something like 7 tanks before leaving. Main objective was to learn the layout (first time on this track) and build a basic setup for the track. Very happy as my little son (5 years old) was very very interested into RC this weekend ans asked me to go to track with me so we woke up by 7am, went out to highway, made a breakfast stop, got some water and food for the day and continued to track.
Sunday was race day, and wooowww ... my little son was very tired from prior day but he insisted on going to track with me again ... so amazing to see this kind of interest so i have a race buddy once again lol !. Qualifiers went good, lots of fast drivers with special attencion in 4-5 of them making amazingly fast laps. I was not the fastest but for my surprise i got very but very consistant laps and after 3 qualifiers my best lap had a difference of only 0.3s v/s my average lap time so i was very very happy and got the TQ for the day.
On A-Main (30 minutes) main issue were tyre wear. The track had medium grip but a very high tyre wear rate (at least very high compared to my local track) so i decided to make the A-Main on 37 Fronts and 40 Rears, 61,5mm front and 64mm rear ... very high if i compare same race time on the other 2 tracks participating on the championship. Going in 3rd place I got a flame out by second refuel due a misscalculation of refuel (we forced an extension of time for second refuel but engine consumed more fuel during that second 4:30 minutes), and lost about 6 laps going down to 6th place. By minute 25 i got 2nd place and stayed on that place until the end of race, but 3 1/2 laps behind the leader. By end of race, 2nd place for me 4 laps behind leader and 2 laps in front of 3rd. Amazing result, great racing environment and best of all, my kid always on my side giving me force to race !!! ... Tyres ended very low, fronts on 54mm and rears on 57mm !!! ...
I will need a change of engine soon, im using XXXV Sirio engines and even when is very very good and reliable, is not so good on top end and im "giving" couple meters by lap to the fastest guys on straight.
A very big THANKS to my sponsors : Team Shepherd Chile, Kosmic Fuels, EG Hobbies Chile, VP PRO and Avid RC. And of course thanks Team Shepherd factory for helping me on car tips once in a while and Nuggets racing for those "emergency parts pack" you always save me with ... specially considering the long distance between our countries ...
So, Team Shepherd Chile did a good job conquering 2nd, 3rd and 4th places on A-Main. Thanks Massimo Cairoli for all the support !
