gear differential oil leak
 
Hello,

I have this problem both with my HPI R40 and the kyosho evo 2 wc edition i'm building. I've rebuild it several times, and always have oil leak out of the casing. ANy ideas whatI'm doing wrong? It. sems to leak where the to halves come together. I've got the rubber seal in the right place, and screw it pretty darn tight. Is it just not tight enough?

Probably nothing .. its not unusual for diffs to leak a little ..
Make sure you are not overfilling them.
You could try using 2 gaskets or even a smear of silicone.

Thanks for the advice. For me it's just not a little leak, it seems to all leak out given enough time. It just gets annoying.

If the two half's are not warped. Then it must be overfilling. Dont fill it above the cross shafts.

I usually use some RTV on the case halves along with the gasket and that works like a charm.

If you use to much oil it will leak no matter how many gaskets or whatever you put on it. You only need to fill your diffs so the oil just covers your spider gears any more and you will leak when you put it back together. Try using smaller amounts of oil and see how you go. This also frees up your diff action a bit as well:nod:

mugen mbx5's diff's had the same problem and this was the fix i read on these forums. assuming your not overfilling your diffs. the likely culprit is a warped diff housing. i found 2 things that worked to fix it. 2 gaskets will seal it, but you end up increasing the length and its a lazy fix. the other is get some sandpaper, around 600 or so. lay it on a table and lay the diff cup on it, up side down. while keeping the cup flat on the paper, rub in a round motion. peek at the seating surface after a couple revolutions and if you have a consistent surface on the lip of the cup your done. if not, repeat till you do.
