but i think i've read somewhere that the piston of this engine is weaker than the NSR's due to the lighter weight or something *shrugs* can anyone confirm this?

I too am curious about the comparison between the NSR and RR. I have the NS12S3 and the NSR12S5 and feel the 3 port to have more torque and MAYBE just a tad less top end. I wonder how the RR12 would compare.

This engine is fast, Voodoo Magic is running 1 .... The difference between the NSR & L3 was only 1 part which is the sleeve , just a little higher port timing... The rest are exactly desame naming Piston, head , crankcase, crankshaft, carb , Bearings, etch... So you can convert your NS or NSR series to L3 by just replacing the sleeve and piston when you wear them out ...

Anybody know where I can download the PDF file of the RR12L3/L5 exploded diagram?

The crankshaft is not the same: where do you think the 14.25 mm stroke comes from.

The piston will also be different since the bore is smaller.
Presumably that means the head button is smaller in diameter, too.

You're totally wrong. The piston/sleeve is different and the crank is different.
You can get all the part numbers off the NovaRossi pricelist on their website.

well, I have an NS12s3a1 and the rr12l3. The piston is smaller, the sleave is the same outside diamiter, but the inside is smaller, and the top of the sleave is alot bigger than the normal piston and sleeve. The pin for notching is different. take a look at the pic. and on top of it all, the turbo plug button sits down in the sleeve farther than the normal button, the rod is shorter too. In the pic, the one on the right is the normal piston and sleave in the rr12l3 case. And if you get a motor from Novarossi that has a bad part, to bad, its your problem as soon as you pay for it. They don't stand behind anything anymore.

Care to comment on the difference in performance between these 2? Thanks.

The RR is an awesome engine and even with the 5 port I've got, it runs very reliably. Much better than the T5 ever ran.
The NSR is wickedly fast too, but I love the bottom to midrange of the RR.
