Default Help with Engine for Mugen MSX3

Hi all,

Been lurking here for quite some time reading and participating in a few threads.

I don't think I ever opened a new thread here, so consider this an act of desperation!

My friend has an MSX3... While helping him to tune it, the crank pin holding the conrod and the pullstart broke and metal shavings ruined the rest (p/s)

This has a side exhaust engine and we are looking for a cheap replacment engine that fits without requiring new mount/clutch setup, header or tune pipe.

Here's a photo of the engine:

As a start:
Would this be a direct drop in?

Is the MV-12 engine in the MSX3 standard or sg type crank?

Would appreciate your help! Thanks!!

it appears this engine has standard crank shaft, rather than SG and using a slide carb.

any suggestions of such engines and who stocks them?

thank you.

Regarding your friends engine problem, sg crankshaft will work then use team associated's clutch nut part # 2313.

thanks freelance!

i have uploaded picture of the actual engine.. It's actually a VX-12. The shaft takes the knurled disk, then the flywheel and then the extended shaft nut. the clutch bell and bearing then go on this 'extender'.

if i use an engine with sg crank, will the same bearing and cluthbell fit? and will the clutchbell align with spur? dont want to end up too short or too long..

are all side exhausts compatible. i.e - one side exhaust header will fit all kinds of side exhaust engines??

any engine recommendation that has the same crank shaft type as the one in the picture, has side exhaust and slide carb?

thanks.

thanks quietstorm76

unfortunately that engine is rear exhaust and rotary carb.

the stock engine is side exhaust and slide carb.

i was thinking about this
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXUH46&P=7

but the picture at towerhobbies differ from the one here
http://www.ofna.com/eng-force12red.php

Also ofna state it's rear exhaust when it clearly isn't!

This is what is holding me back. Otherwise I would have just ordered off tower.

thanks!

By looking at the second picture of your friends engine, it does'nt have any collet on the flywheel.

Here's my suggestions:

It's a .15 engine but it still fit the car.

in the end i got the ofna foce 12 red.

it's the only one i could find with a slide carb and side exhaust, and it should also have threaded crank.

thanks every1 for the input.

turns out the force 12 red is an sg type crank engine.
i got clutch nut similar to team associated's clutch nut part # 2313 but cant get the engine mounted on the car...

if i move it back, the pull start hits the diff case and cluth bell ends up short of the spur... if I move it forwards the engines mount holes do not line up with the holes in the chassis....

any ideas please?
