Somewhere else to think about - when I was looking for a crock pot to sacrifice I asked the women in the office if anyone had one to sacrifice and came up empty, but someone sugested Goodwill / Salvation Army and I've now got one for a total investment of $4.74.

If Newark walmarts are like richmond walmarts you will not have to worry about anyone asking you anything.

I use rubbing alcohol for quickly rinsing out the spent oils in the pipe. I also found that xylene works well for removing the rubber and foam off the outside of the pipe. It will attack those green rubber gloves you should wear to protect your hands, so it does the same to the gunk, yet does nothing to the aluminum.

Next time your changing engine bearings if you have time throw your empty crankcase in there for a little "crock pot" cleaning. Just like new.

just have it powder coated be RB Mods and you'll be able to wipe it down every time after your done running for the day, plus it looks really cool....I've had three of my engines done by him and its awesome, and before anyone asks, no it doesn't affect engine temp. It costs about 35 dollars to do.

Pipe is in the pot with some wal-mart anti-freeze. Got it outside to avoid the fumes being in the house. 1 hour passed so far and it's on low so not much progress yet. The pot was $10 plus $7 for the anti-freeze, not bad for a good cleaning.

You won't see any "magic cleaning" effects for at least 5 or 6 hours.

I boiled mine in the garage (door open) and it smelled like a late 70s Buick over-heated in there.

Yeah, I meant to get up earlier to put it out but it was raining when I woke up so I went back to sleep.

Do you use concentrate antifreeze or premixed as it goes into your cars radiator?

I tried it, boiled it for about 12 hours but it didn't come completely clean. Actually, I think the rubber was burned into the coating on the pipe so when I put it in the antifreeze, it was already too late. It did get all of the gunk off the pipe and what didn't boil off, came of when I dried it.

Im basically just a parking lot basher, so i really put my parts to the extreme, and I have never had any problems taking off the pipe and wiping it down with a clean terry cloth towel. If I store it for more than a week, I take simple green, or brake parts cleaner, or some sort of degreaser and I run it through the pipe to clean out the inside. For the towel to work you need to do it all the time, every run. The only time I ran into problems is when I had a pipe already damaged by the deposits.
