after run oil
 

I am going to be breaking in my first nitro motor. I was told that I should add after run oil to the motor before attempting the break in. How much do I add?

Also, I was told that there should be blue smoke coming from the exhaust during the process. Is the blue smoke from the after run oil? How do you get consistent blue smoke?

I've never heard of that :weird:just a few drops over the piston head, far as smoke don't worry so much about the color as long as you have smoke coming out of the exhaust....:nod::tire::nod:

you don't need to put after run oil before you start the motor. After run oil is used after you run so the engine's internals don't get corroded.

Since the motors are 2 stroke, the fuel already contains all the lubricants the motor needs.

It never hurts to have a little lube, just squirt some in the glow hole. I don't like to start a new engine dry either, can't hurt and maybe helps.

the smoke, just lot's of smoke, like it is running fat, you can go 4-6 hours unscrewing the high end needle to get it fat

So basically, The after run oil is used after the engine has been cleaned and to keep it lubed. I should keep the piston DBC. The smoke will happen when I start the motor and as I am breaking it in.

Are there any screws that I should be turning to keep it rich and keep it smoking?

The motor is a sirio 7 port .21 for my vector. I heard that it is a good motor. Do you guys know anything about them.

As a precaution I would make a trip to a good local hobby store and have them start the engine. They should be able to show you how an engine that is tuned fat should run. If you are asking where the High speed needle is located and how to use it I would definately run by my local hobby store to get a couple of good pointers. Good luck

From the tone of your questions, it seems you have little experience breaking-in engines. I would seek the assistance of someone at a local Hobby shop or local driver that is willing to help you.
I always lube my piston and sleeves before first firing them to break-in to ensure they have some lube while I try to turn the engine over for the first time.

The high speed needle should be closed a quarter turn from factory settings to ensure you fire it up the first time, then fatten it up by opening it slowly once the engine is running.
