Gear Box/Case Lube
 

(Note: This is not Lube INSIDE the diff, im talking about lube for the pinion/bevel gear)

I feel grease is just getting thrown/push off the pinion/bevel gears, has anyone used oil? just put enough in bottom of the gear case to touch the bevel gear.. thoughts anyone? (am i Crazy?)

One big negitive would be if car was on its side oil would leak out where drive cups come out of gbox case.. :cry: & Get in bearings etc.

Well, in my NTC3 diffs I just put a little grease on my gears. I know that most of it will be thrown off but there will be a little film left.

Try using Red Bearing grease. It cost about 3.50 and comes in a large can. This stuff will last you forever. I have used it and it is great lube. Beats paying 7.00 for green slime!!

racer's choice - hyspin+ is the best white wax gease for bevel gears. you dont need much to do the job, just put very little amount of the gease to cover the bevel gear contact surface will make your gears last long time without relubing.

i personally have never ran anything on the "ring and pinion" gears on any of my 1/8th i have owned. i think proper shimming is more important. i have heard of people sealing the diff case with rtv to the chassis to minimize the dirt/dust from entering and fill with your favorite grease. not sure if it will work with oil, doesn't hurt to try but i see no benefit.:D

Well the gears are hardened. Maybe with the dirt/dust getting in grease/oil, running them try is the best thing you can do :)

As for shimming I just went and got a hole punch set so I can make some shims (coke cans will be useful now haha) I was using the single ones that came with buggy but it needed more shimming.
