I keep seeing setup sheets showing tire sizes for 1/8th on road cars, usually somewhere in the range around 65f/72r roughly. Most of the time setup sheets are made from how the car was setup in the main. So are these the tire sizes that guys are using to start an A main which I will assume is 1 hour long. If so what size do people run their tires for qualifiers? Just looking for some insight on tire size for 1/8th scale cars.

Alot of things to take into account when choosing tire size between quals & mains.
Like track surface, how long the main will be & how deep your pockets are

I assume you know there will be tire wear & as the tire wears the ride height of your car changes, making your set up change.

I do not now of any driver out there that runs a 1 hour main, can use 1 set of tires, they useually have to do a tire change during there race.

As for me I useually can get 3 qualifiers with one set of tires. As long as I dont chunk one of them.
I start with 68f and 75r and in between i recheck my ride height, dont need my chassis scraping the ground

I am sure there will be more people willing to adress this topic but this all I can think of right at the moment.

Make your decision based upon track surface and traction. The smoother and higher the traction, the smaller you can go on the tire size. Generally, the smaller the tires the faster you are able to go, but keep in mind like the post before stated, In a long main you don't want to go to small because your ride height will change and you don't want to bottom out.

72mm rear tire is for qualifing, where you will only need to run for 5 miuntes plus 3 minutes warm-up. For 1 hour mains what you need to do is figure out how much tire you wear for and x amount of minutes. SO if you wear .5mm per 5 minutes, for 1 hour main you need to start at 75mm rear tire.
