Default Short track

Why is it that the fw05r is refered to as a good short track car?

Is the gearing too low for big tracks or the handling is better???

The FW05 is good on short tracks as it gets out of the corners.
As for large tracks, once you've fitted the 37T diff rings and a correct pipe (like the Kyosho) you will have plenty of speed.
Since I've fitted the Kyosho pipe I have been lowering the gearing as the car is now overgeared for a 155ft straight.

hey guys i was just wondering what would be better to buy for a medium-large size track

would it be better to get 37T steel ring gears or to get the kawahara centre conversion?

what would give me more top end?

and will i have to use 22/28 pinions with any of the two?

please help if you can

im using the kyosho pipe on my fw with 40t ring gears, and pinion combination of 21/51 and 27/45 and the car seems to have plenty of speed on a 210ft straight.

I have just finished reading this thread an i noticed when you first installed the RRR rear hubs you thought it made the rear unstable? How do you think the Fw05-RR will go then with these items standard for Rubber tyres?

stock spur are 51/46

The RRR rear hubs were unstable at first as it would not accept the set up I had for the original hubs, I have now found the setting and they are better, the only change I make to change from rubber to foam is to increase the camber from 1.5 degree to 3 degree.

The RRR front hubs are a must for rubber though as they allow more steering lock but does not throw the rear end.

Traj, I had the Kawahara conversion in at the Nats, 22-27 pinions are as big as you would ever need. I have tried a 28 but the car went no faster and the motor got very hot.
The big advantage with the Kawahara is the very slight overdrive, about 2mm split is all you need.

The Kawahara is a little smoother than the 37T ring gears and the overdrive does help handling but there are not parts readily available if you break or lose something. That's why I chose the Kyosho 37T ring gears instead. Also, at the time, the Kyosho option was cheaper. I think the Kawahara conversion is $80 now.

I run the Kawahara option simply because the 37T Kyosho option wasn't even thought off, the 39T option had only just been announced by Kyosho but not yet released.

The wear rate of the Kawahara option is amazing, after 8 months the rear diff ring gear still looks like new, not even a wear mark.

Hi RJL thats the track im talking about Moorebank

so iff i get 22/27 pinions i wont need the 37T rings?

i have the 39T steel ones atm

Im gonna try it as well this weekend if weather permitts as well but the forecast says its a wet weekend for me. hope you get better luck!

i also going to test out the front RRR hubs ,i already ran the rear RRR this past weekend
