this thread got pushed down quite a bit. anyone try the 3racing parts or GPM stuff for their R40 (i know, GPM is notorious for awful QC, but the HK stuff seems ok).

Default Rubber Tire set up

Hi, where can I find a basic rubber tire set up for the R40? I tried to look in the HPI site but they only have foam tire setup. If you have any basic set up just to start off with, please share or post. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Cool!

I would love to see one mounted up. Just to see where it fits on and all that.

Wolf Pack Radicals has some pretty good stuff also, the only thing they've released is a standard shoe type clutch though. My friend is using a prototype lightweight 2 speed clutch. Looks pretty sweet! I'm gonna see if they'll let me review they're 2 speed.

One of the few things I'm not happy with on the car is the Rollbar/handle. First is how it functions as a handle. I think the top of it sits waaaay too close to the engine head. This seems to be just begging for burt fingers or hands. I guess wearing those Machanix Gloves would take the worry out of being burned, but the handle really should have been angled forward a bit. And Secondly is how if functions as a rollbar. I wish the bar was a little taller. The heatsink head on my new Sirio is level with the roll bar. What good is the roll bar if the heatsink head is at the same level as the bar?

Does anybody know of any aftermarket rollbar/handle that solve either or both of these problems? All the aftermarket one's I seen so far are exactly the same size as the stock unit.

-or-

Has anybody done any mods to make their's taller. The way the bar mounts makes it a little difficult to simply raise it with spacers. Any thoughts???

What's the point of a handle when you cant reach it with the body on? I just took mine off, same with alot of guys at my track. Once it's off it saves weight on lowers the CG.

Well its handy for picking up the hot car when the body is off. And like I said, the second purpose of it is supposed to be rollover protection for your heat sink head. But with heatsink heads getting taller, the bar comes up a little short.

Also, if you happen to be running a Lola style body, the handle is quite useful.

I'd understand it if we ran Lola bodies, but we have to use ROAR rules in the state series.

There's alot of stuff you can do to make the car much lighter. The main thing is to replace the front diff with a one-way. Then mount the reciever on the side of the servo. This will allow you to get rid of the on/off switch, the reciever box, a couple screws & some other things.

Yeah, I'm not that desperate to make my car lighter. I like having a handle and the protection of the receiver box. I like having a on/off switch. And don't really care for a one-way on our particular track. At least not when I'm running mod electric or nitro.

The weight of the car really isn't a big concern for me. I plan on replacing the shock towers with graphite, adding the lightweight shafts, and maybe going with HPI's relieved upper deck. But thats about it. And not really in that big of a hurry to do those. Just something to do really...

3racing makes aluminum roll bar for r40. Or you can simply put vonerr handle bar (the aluminum one), but you have to drill new hole on the upperdeck.
