Default 2004 r40

just got the 2004 at last. One way front, lots of titaniums. I downloaded hara and thad's set ups and see if this R40 lives to what they say it is. Good luck to me.

Default R40 - OverDrive Calculator

For all of you Excel users, I put together a little spreadsheet that calculates 4WD overdrive ratios for the R40. It assumes both front and rear tire diameters are equal.

Simply edit the pulley sizes and it will recalculate. Enjoy!

Any thoughts on engine upgrade?
You must be running on a very abrasive surface. I beleive that the kit rears are 40 shore. I ran in a race last month where 35 shore tires were worn down all the way to the rim after one run, but 40's lasted and lasted with just as much grip. Sounds like you are getting things sorted out.

I have locked up the front diff with modelling clay and the results were great on our tight track, have to buy the solid axel now.
I was thinking of upgrading from an OS.12TR(P)T to something with a bit more sting, maybe a SirioEvo2. Any other suggestions?
The Ozzy R40 comes with 40 shore rears. Going thru the tires that fast is not particularly uncommon on some surfaces. I raced at the Murwillimbah track on the Gold Coast and used 3mm off my rears in a 5 minute race.

There is not a great deal you can do to prevent tire wear.

Why is it that on my hpi super nitro I can hear the 2nd gear shift, but on the R40 I can bearly hear it? I know it shifts because on races I hear the other cars shift and I'm still in front, or at the same speed at the end of the straight?

Default Weight problems???

It says on the manual that the R-40 weighs around 1750g, but mine weighs around 2118g with everything including gas, I'm thinkink of buying the front and rear shock mounts (graphite) the front/rear titanium shafts, the LW.08 tranny and the steering brace (graphite) and the LW chasis to see how much weight I can shave off. I use an electronic weight system and in pounds my R40 weihgs 4.9 pounds, while the super nitro with everything including fuel only weighs 4.3 pounds.

HPI should have a super pro kit with all these extras included, cause when you look at it you spend a lot of dough $$$ in the after market.

For you R40 guys, apparently Surikarn after the switch to HPI is now running the R40 in the 1/10th scale TC.

Here is some pics from TQ Racing at a recent race in Thailand;

More report here.

Default Karn & R40

from the report looks like the car was good enough to post the fastest lap. I hope hpi sends him to the U.S. to run nitro events just like hara.

No doubt, granted he was indeed Surikarn. Also mentioned was he had a lot of problems and spent a lot of time repairing his car in the pits...

1st, weigh your car without fuel. That how its done for sanctioned racing. You can also buy the 2004 asian editon with all the lightweight option parts already on it. Even comes with titanium screws.

With your 2 speed, your super nitro uses a finger type clutch which engages really hard. The R40 uses a clutch style that is smoother and more consistant.

Thanks RapidRoy!!! Where can I buy, or see the 2004 asian editon with all the lightweight option parts? Is there a link or something that you can send me?

I race the R-40 mostly against serpent's 705 and 710, but I can hear them change gear while in my case, I can;t here mine change, I've heard it a couple of times, but like you say it's probably smoother than my super nitro. On the other hand myy car with out gas weighs aproximately 2000grs and thats why I need to get all the lightweight components... please advise on the like if you have it
