Default JLR Red Dot .12 Evo3 VS. OS TZ(P) T5

I'm planning to renew my engines for 2008.

What is faster engine : JLR Red Dot or OS TZ-5 ?

Thank you for everyone's advices or suggestions.

Are you comparing a 3 port to a 5 port if so, I would go with the 3 port over the 5 port since it's roar legal. But if both are 3 ports; I favor the the OS .12 spec II 3 port over the Red dot. But you can't beat the price of the Red Dot. Purely looking at (dollars to speed) the Red Dot wins hands down.

like stated, you can buy a red dot, have it modded, and still have money left over compared to the tz spec 2.
But since i see that you're sponsored....check out the Murnan modiffied Novarossi's! lol

I just picked up my JL Evo3 RED DOT a week or 2 ago.
Broke the motor in and nice for the price.
But i was wondering is this motor expected
to have any of the same issues as the first Red Dot.
I ran the motor this weekend. It had a nice tune
ran hard and strong, but i notice a little wetness
around the carb area. What should i do before
this become a issue? Any help will be apprecaited.

Thanks

The Red Dot, hands down! No way the O.S. can keep up with the red dot.

Loosen the pinch bolt for the carburetor (make sure carb is totally loose) then press down as hard as you can before tightening the pinch bolt screw, the carburetor needs to be all the way down for the Oring to seal.

I removed the carb and replaced the old o-ring
with 2 new ones instead.
And press the carb down as hard as could like you said.
It seems to be very tight now, better than before.
I will be racing that motor this weekend. I will let you know how it truns out
Thanks for your help

I like the smoothness of the OS engine(tz spec II). The JLR Red Dot was a little too punchy for my taste. But thats just my opinion.

So which one is faster engine now ?

You can assume Red Dot 3 ports VS. TZ 5 ports.

Guys I've been running a first generation Red Dot(EVO2) since last year and all I can say they are hard to beat. Not just because of price but the performance is right up there with any stock .12 especially bottom and mid power. I haven't had any tuning problems and can't remember the last time it flamed out and I've ran the hell out of this motor.

my .2 cents

The only thing stopping me from getting one of these engines is glow plugs... If anyone can tell me where to get a glow plug of Piccos for less than $5 a piece, I will order right now a JLR... And since im talking about glow plugs... Are Sirio glow plugs or OS glow plugs compatible with this engine???

I get my plugs from Kamikasze. They are around $8-9 but they are high quality and I could probabally run the same PICCO plug 3 to 1 compared to a McCoy or novarosi or other turbo plug. When I ran the REX motor, I changd the plug almost after every day of racing. I finally blew my first PICCO plug after about 1 and a half months of racing with the same motor. maybe I'm just lucky, but I don't think so.
