Is that the only brand sold at the hobby shop?
I have never heard of winner myself, but if the local hobby shop there says they are going to have replacement parts then it may not be a bad place to start. If you get a brand that parts are not easily accessible it can be very aggravating.

At a casual glance the car seems to be a Thunder Tiger. They're so-so intended for the RTR and backyard hobbyist to compete with CEN, Traxxas, HPI and others, none are what you would call race ready. I believe that they, Thunder Tiger, may even have a "competition style pro" model but no one seems to race those.
Like Trey said, if that's all they have at your LHS and can support the car with parts then it may be OK for you.
