Default 220mm GPR Class

Saw this posted on redrc.net. Old news? New news?

http://www.redrc.net/2008/02/kawahara-110th-220mm-gpr/

How would this affect unprepared parking lot tracks low on traction?

I dont see the point of this. It just looks like Kawahara is looking for a new way to make money.

All it just waters down the classes further so we get smaller fields

i think its kinda cool.. like a 1/10 modded into a 1/8 lookalike with the lola and the wider track

although itll be a longshot to get running and cant half tell kawahara see it as a buisness proposition

The only thing I see that might be a problem is that you need to change your track width allot, so I dont know if that will be a problem

In europe the 235mm is still driven in some countries, some made to their 200mm cars other suspensions or only other shafts to place Impact/835 wheels and so they can race in these series.

Not sure if that class would grow.

If they are going to do this, they might as well revive the 235mm class here in the states. I really loved the 235mm cars and those are the cars that got me into serious onroad nitro racing. I still have two of the Serpent Impact 2wd cars with touring car bodies and would love to run them again.

waste of time. Either bring 235mm back or forget it. At the moment 8th scale is benefiting from the demise of 235mm i think, so leave the IC section as is.

Enstead to create a new class, then get all the 235 mm out and roll again.

It is a good idea since running this class just requires a basic touring chasis with a change in Body type and tire with special off set and width.

The other thing is that tire wear would be reduced since the your gaining 10mm of width in the rear with the same weight chasis...

The problem with the 235mm class is that it is not very popular and I don't know any manufacturer with a new chasis for this class. I guess if I had one sitting around I would also want to race it but I wouldn't want to buy an outdated chasis for a class that is not very popular....

This new class is based on a very popular chasis with changes in body and tires......

Dude, this class was very popular in the early 2000s (don't know where you have been). ROAR had a lot to do with killing off this class in the states. Also, the rising cost of the equipment of the class contributed helped to contribute to its demise (a 4wd 235mm car with 5/7 port big-block .15 cost just as much as a 1/8th scale package when 235mm started to die off). I have two of them (the Serpent chassis) and wish that it would come back. I had more fun racing it than either my 200mm or 1/8th scale.

"Essentially they are saying that due to the power of modern .12 engines that the cars have become more difficult to control."

Does anyone agree with this statement? I sure don't.
