I'd read the Mugen forums....
for all the money these guys put into their cars, you could own one Serpent, one nitro tc3,and a 3pk futaba to control them both..
This way,you could own both cars with championships under their belt...
and if you want a Mugen, just wait till the G4 hits ground(or the HPI).....Mugen owners have a track history of jumping on the next big bandwagon,so they'll be plenty around on Ebay..
think I'm kidding about their "walk on water attititude"?..watch how they attack me for my comments....
See,Its OK to call other cars junk..just not theirs..
I'd get the Serpent..at least teh rear end is slop free...

705 vs. MTX3.... what to choose.
First of all: almost seems about personal likings, so choose your car with this on mind, but take some other things in your head when going for the car.
- Parts Support: Without trackside spare parts, makes you to carry spares to the track or plenty support at a HS near of you.
- Track support: Get one that is common at your track, so if you run into problems, someone can help you at least.
Mi choose is the Mugen. Why? easy, because parts are plenty and cheap around me at HS, are many on the track, got many cars from Mugen and I feel comfortable with them.
WHY did not choose 705??? Easy, because some parts of the car doesn't like me and has many defects for mine opinion. Here are some, probably will know more, but actually don't remember/don't want to write more.
1. Engine clogged with so many parts, reinforcements and other things. Engine don't breath and accumulate plenty of heat around it. Hard restarts when you flameout in a final.
2. Gearbox clutch is weird, don't have screws to adjust the clearance between them and the 2nd speed bell... so you need to rely on the stock size and clearance (seems that they released a 2nd gear clutch that is adjustable, btw: is optional).
3. Rear axle adjustment weird. You don't have an upper link to adjust camber, you have a solid a-arm that don't permits camber adjustment, you need to do screwing and unscrewing the lower pillowballs, so to change caster you need to mess your rear track width and toe-in (and this is a clever designed car???). Some adjustments aren't possible without going more wide than 200mm, so are illegal and out of reach of 705 users (Wise guys and 'engineers' of Serpent did this, blame them).
Mine choose? MTX3 without a doubt.

The best car for you is the one you like the look of and you can get parts for cheaply. All of the cars are pretty much equal these days with each one having their own personalities.
Some people will claim that certain car features (eg drivetrain) make them the best car. Look at the recent NTC3 craze. Fact is that certain cars may have an advantage on certain tracks but you have to apply that to YOUR track not anybody elses (look at the world cup last year, Serpent and Asso were the only two manufacturers who had the gearing to run on that huge track. Does that mean they are the "best" cars?) Some people run on tracks with less than 100 foot straights and claim that this motor or car is the best thing out there, but my track has a 240 foot straight and I am sure different cars may be better suited to this track.

From what I've seen....
I run a corally C4, for those who don't know, the C4 has a hell of alot of serpent parts on it. I have never had a serpent part break to the point of you ending your day prematurely. Sure I've had a crack or two where the pillow ball screws in but there fine cracks that can be fixed with Ca glue, untill you can get a replacemnet part. Serpent parts are tough, when I started racing I found myself doing quite a few barrel rolls from being tapped in practice by nitro cars, not once did I break a serpent part. I've also never had a defected part. Granted nitro's are faster and so more stress is put on the parts but I have seen the mtx3 break twice as much as I've seen the 705 break. If I bought a nitro I'd get a serpent because I know the parts can take abuse and because it's a pure built race car.
Just my take...
Just my take...

well I don't know about the 705vsMTX-3 but I will tell you, that the Mugen is VERY expensive (trust me, I own one). Expect alot of up-keep on the kit to make it perform as well as it does out of the box. Its a very solid kit mind you, but be prepared to spend more than you think.
CVD's are a must -atleast upfront-, different roll bars, as well as
different springs right off the bat. Also, make sure you check after every run the stupid metal shielded bearings up front. They got cheap I guess, and though they would be better than rubber sealed like the res of the kit!?
Elec. motor shims ... get some. Your rear will thank you , grab extra belts -my 3port Paris mod ripped the teeth right off the front belt after the 3rd run-. Anything else? Oh yeah don't put too much thread lock on the screws that hold the pivot balls Bad mistake, you'll either have to pry as hard as you can on the plastic cups, or well .. spin the ballcup around a million times until you want to throw the kit haha
I bought an NTC3 ..... The Mugen sure does look nice on my shelf!
As for the 705, I too narrowed my choices down between the 705 and MTX-3 (saying I would NEVER buy a stupid POS NTC3) ... I think I would have been happier in the end buying the 705 between the MTX-3 and the 705 that is.
The 705 seems alot stronger, -make sure you fix up the rear outside pully so it doesn't heat up your outer bearing and melt it though!- and from my point of view, a LITTLE easier to work with. The MTX-3 takes FOREVER to properly strip and check all moving components. Probably the same for the 705.
Anyways, if its between those two kits ... looking back I would take the Serpent 705 (not to mention support around here is alot better for it ) ...
You won't be finding my new NTC3 on the shelf anytime soon though; its not perfect .. and there are definitly things I do not like about it, but the things I do not like about it are VERY minor. The pros far outweigh the cons.
Good luck
