Default 1/8 onroad shock spring?

Can someone please tell me how they rate the 1/8 onroad shock stiffness of the springs according to color. Also what rating is recommended. I have a PRP XR8.

Thank You,

Thank You,
For the XR-8, use the short white Mugen springs in front, and the gray XR-8 springs in the rear.
Try 50 weight oil for front shocks, and 40 weight oil for the rear
I also have an XR-8, but also have some Evolvas, and Mugens

BRC358,

Thank you for the info and I'll try that. I was looking at these Serpent springs
http://ashfordhobby.com/detail.aspx?ID=5964
and was wondering if I choose their white for the front and the Gray for the back would it be the same as you recommended also I would be using the shock oil you suggested.

Thank You,

the serpent and mugen springs are not consistent. for serpent white and grey are at the extreme (white is softest and grey is the hardest). neither of these are commonly used.

however the mugen white seem almost a standard. i don't know the mugen range but i would expect it to be some kind of medium rate given its popularity

In Mugen Seiki

Purple = 1.6mm
Blue = 1.7mm
Gray = 1.8mm
White = 1.9mm
Red = 2.0mm

Front spring is shorter than rear.

This one is more complete ...

Try to find out the setup of other cars from drivers with a lot of experience at a specific track. You can find a lot of setup sheets around the WWW. You might even glance at the setup of a different brand than your own car. Note that other driver's setups might work fine for them, but might not suit your own driving style / skills, but it never hurts to use it as a guideline / reference ...

SER 160308 Gray 9,0 51,5 23mm
SER 160309 Black 10,0 57,0 23mm

and here is their rear spring chart:

New Rear Spring ratings
Part Number Color N/mm lb/inch Lenght
SER 160320 White 2,3 13,0
27mm
SER 160321 Yellow 2,8 16,0 27mm

Can someone please tell me what rating or color would be a good starting point.

Thank You,

I received the New Serpent front + rear springs with their Pink rating and they seem pretty good. Haven't tried onroad until it's warmer. I also put some new 50w oil in the front and 40w in the rear as brc358 suggested.

I also got a good deal on the Bay for some new Serpent Blue and Yellow complete spring sets for $8.00 just in case these don't work out.
