I also dont agree with a sportsman class
In the RC pro texas offroad series there is a sportsman class and there are guys faster than me and would have been in Amain open. This class is for beginners but many people sandbag and stay in this class to get the trophy or the win. Now who will say I am an open or sportsman racer. I have raced only 2 big races with my GT both in Porter, so I am basically a beginner and can run in sportsman? what about the sponsored guy who wants to win for his ride, can he run in sportsman?
Just some questions to get answers.

My suggestion is to make it an Open class and then just give smaller trophy or prices to the lower mains. So they can still brag they won something even if it were the lower mains. The racing will be closer because you are running with guys as fast as you. Racing would be more intense and FUN. Imagine in the sportsman A main, the leader wins by 15 laps in 20 mins. That is not fun and fair at all.

I personally don't agree with a "Sportsman" Class, but that's my personal choice.

IGT8F as stated is to promote racing.

If the "Sportsman" Rules are submitted by the DEADLINE, and has an Official Sponsor for the Class. It will be published in the class rules, and promoted.
If not it will be Deleted off site and will not be open for discussion told Rule change and Discussion time of year.

IGT8F will countinue to promote it's existing "SPEC & OPEN" Class as defined.

"SPEC" rules are Finalized and has its Official Sponsors.
"OPEN " rules are Finalized and is available for sponsorship.

" SPORTSMAN" rules needed to be submitted, and Requires a Sponsorship.

In our Redneck of the woods we picked up 3 racers because of our Motor limit and Spec tire, BUT nobody has a long chassis. Just discussing OPEN with the guys and they say they are out. Everyone here would be running some sort of Sportsman class for club racing and I'm sure of few of us would step up to Open for the big races.

Is there spec or even sportman classes in other nitro genres? Ex: 1:10 Sedan, 1:8 Onroad, 1:8 Pan Car, etc.

All the work and communication happening here is great, don't get me wrong. But, I'm concern about what club, state or region this is going to help. Certainly, not ours.

Good luck to IGT8F and all its affiliates.
We see Eye to eye in this, that's why I don't believe in a "Sportsman" Class Because the car you use in "Sportsman" is the same car you can use in "OPEN". The only difference is your telling the driver, your not good enough to race Open, so you have to race in "Sportsman".
Plus your correct most clubs or track can't support both Open and Sportsman.

I actually spoke with one of your NY racers yesterday, I was trying to find out which race the NE, wanted to be listed as PRE-QUALIFIER for the GT8 World Cup Championship in 2014.
He said the biggest turn out was your Region Roar race this next week.

IGT8F Race Program:

IGT8F is here to promote races Internationally, if your club races GT8 now it's affiliated by association regardless.

If you become an IGT8F Official Affiliate or Official Product or Class Sponsor, you get direct support through our site and in person.

You get added to our Directory so your track, shop, Series and information is in one spot.
You can direct rule questions for your GT8 racers to our Web page.(Race flyer, for GT8 RULES vist WWW.IGT8F.COM). So racers have easy access and know what to expect. At any IGT8F Sponsored event.
You get your events promoted and not just GT8, if your event is an On-Road event with any IGT8F Class available for your racers it's posted in our active Calender.
You get your own Thread on our forum.
You get direct connection with our list of Sponsors.
You get your own Album in our Gallery section for pic and Video.
We work to get your events the Maximum exposure and coverage, to improve entries and spectator attendance.

If you know a track or shop owner that would benefit from any of the above. Please contact Director@IGT8F.COM

Good to hear!

I may have a Lwb DM-1 built to the Spec class at the last event this year, October 12/13, for people to see and drive. FYI - Body will be a Ferrari ....

For those with DM-1's I'm working on how to convert a DM-1 Spec 1/8 scale and what parts may be helpfull in making the car work. In talking with Tony, the idea is that when you want to enter the Sportsman or Pro class, all you should have to change is the chassis and the drive line dog bones. And only if you want to ..... in the Pro Class, you will need the short chassis.

I'll post those on the DM-1 thread as I'm building mine. I will not be running this class, even though many racers will say that my driving (or lack of) fits better in Spec than open, I just think this is where we need to get NEW racers into nitro on road.

here in Brazil in our state championship , we run GT in this rules , and GT class have a great succes and a very tight level of cars and pilots

CHASSIS - all 1/8 buggy/truggy based or pure GT cars with cardan only (we have Cobras , ofnas DM1 and GTP , kyoshos , JQs )

ENGINES - below 260usd is allowed to use 2 speed gear , above this limit only single speed ... motors are not allowed above 300 usd

TYRES - one set of your compound choice + one emergency tyre ( 5 tyres total ) to use in one 5 minutes qualy round and two 25 minutes finals , so you have to use your tyres about 1 hour of races .... so compound choice is important ... all tyres are sealed by the Director
for free practice you can use the tyre you wants ... but for race , you only can use the sealed tyres

150 ml fuel tank

3,500 kg minimal weight limit

any upgrade on chassis or engine tunning service is possible

we used classical maximum average measurements for 1/8 and 1/7 cars

with this rules , our state championship is the most equal and have low cost to participants ... is easy to get new pilots from off road drivers who wants to test GT style cars ... and thats the reason of this rules and it works well !!!

As to the classes for the Heart of America series, my guess is that we will be Spec and Open OR Spec and Sportsman, but that will be based on what the club wants to run. Either will fit in my opinion.

One item that I think we should also work with in the Sportsman class is a 6mm restrictor. This will help smooth out the power, which will keep repair and re-build costs down. Should be open tire, open engine with limits like we currently have. (HOA current rules)

T-Hawk ..... would this work for your racers as well? Sportsman and Spec

San ..... would this work for your racers as well? Open and Spec

And for all the places that have gone to full open, you run Open and Spec. I really think this is what Tony was thinking about, as they run open in Texas ....

Lagos,

I think you rules fit right in with the Sportsman Class. Only change would be maybe $300 amount for the engines. We changed that last year so guys did not buy the $250 engines and then spend $100 on a good carb .......

Lagos, I like your limits and restrictions, but allowing all manufactures to play. Has anyone seen how many different classes ROAR has? Does every track offer ALL the classes? I cannot understand why you don't believe in a Sportsman Class? Like what has been said before "Don't run it". For tracks that would run it, I would like to say "Hey, we follow rules ran by 'IGT8F.com' under their Sportsman Class, check it out" thus sending someone to YOUR site, to see YOUR sponsors and YOUR hard work. Is there a reason why this is being poo pooed on?

So.... why were you looking for ideas on "Sportsman" class rules again???

Someday, How about a "Master's" Class? (same as open but with an age barrier)

I have Viagra in my pocket and I'm old enough to use it. Masters class would be cool.

To answer both your post T-Hawk..
But first Hell ya!! Viagra Sponsor for Master, submit the Rules!!
Said before I have a 12yr and under Class in ruff draft, for maybe Electric.

Anyways, as I said I don't believe in "Sportsman", but that doesn't change the fact it's a possible class for IGT8F. But I done making rules, for now.

Racers and parties that have a unified set of rules and a Sponsor for the Class. Deadline is set.
