I think the gears on the 008 transmission are OK. Making the change to Evolva spur gears will require a complete re-make of the transmission. My experience is that the 008 gears hold up fine.

Kyosho makes Evolva pinions in 15, 16, 17, 19, 20 and 21t gears and they will thread right onto the VS058 clutch bell. I have had many of my customers switch over to the VS058 in order to have a larger pinion gear selection.

I modified the Evolva first gear spur to fit the stock Kyosho one-way and it gave me a better gear selection. You have to ream the first gear center and slightly open one of the screw holes. It has been durable and worked great.

I would say OFNA or Serpent. But most of the time the OFNA is too large to replace most of todays center diffs of any buggy. So that leaves the Serpent on that is very compact and it comes from the 1/8 pan car so it can handle extreme loads.

What chassis are you looking at? I've got a Mugen 2 speed with gears converted from the MRX sitting on an OFNA chassis ........

I am really thinking about trying the GT class since we just had a new track open in the area. Anyone have a used GT car for sale?

PM me your e-mail and I'll send a picture of what I have. Check the distance between the screw mounts and send that info as well. I have this set up to work in the DM-1 Spec Chassis.

One thing that may be contributing to you stripping gears is misalignment. Gear mesh is very important but also you need to have as much of the pinion aligned and in full contact with the spur so that you get 100% contact or as close as you can get.

I had to do a lot of shimming when I went to the VS058 and I had to put a spacer between 1st and 2nd gear pinions in order get a good full gear to gear alignment.

Lee
What did you use for shims? I'm having a hard time finding shims that fit properly. Thx

Do they sell the whole Serpent 2 speed as 1 item or do you have to buy each piece separate. Thx

I have a kyosho on the 777 chassis with a modded two speed using the evolva stuff. It ran second at the rc pro series national in Houston. I can sell it as a roller or rtr. Asking $300 for roller. Many upgrades. Titanium, straight cut heavy duty diffs, light weight universals.
