Temp Gun, Please advise.
Hi all, I need advise on temp gun. Currently I have 2 units of temp gun which is the blue in colour Dtatrax "FALSHPOINT" and Ofna temp gun which is in orange colour. I not need 2 so I plan to sell one locally but can't decide which have to go. Please advise pro and con if you have use it/ hear before. Thanks in advance.

From the factory cal sheet included..... Exergen does seven cal points on the DX501- from 86F to 385F. They verify the target temp with four NIST tracable thermometers for each cal point.
The most it was off at any of the seven points was 1F and that was at 385F where it read 386F

BTW- do not use the DX501 on a .21 Ninja without some precautions. You must place a exhaust gasket around the DX501 head to prevent damage to the window.
The head recess is much larger on the Ninja than most other engines and the DX501 sensor window will hit the plug and get damaged...... the exhaust gasket will make the DX's head large enough to prevent the window from contacting the plug when using it on the Ninja.
It's not a problem with most other on-road engines, but might possibly be with some of the off-road head designs.
I have first hand experience with the sensor damage from using it on a Ninja and that is when I bought the OFNA PCR gun to use while my DX was out for repair. When I got the Exergen back I compared readings with my PCR and found the PCR was 10F higher across the board. I've compared my Exergen to the Duratrax models at the track... LOL.... what a joke!

I've been looking at the OFNA too. Any other comments on the accuracy? It seems like my first choice in the price range.

I have the Raytech big gun with the cone....my friend has the exergen.......
the odonnell,on RB,OS,Nova,and and my HPI purple head nova is always within one degree of the EXERGEN and RAYTECH...small,BACKLIT, 39.95...

a good way to see if your gun is in the ballpark.....
* Place a piece of BLACK electrical tape vertically on a pot.
* Fill pot 3/4 full w/ water and place a lid on it so that steam can barely escape.
* Now boil the water.
* After the water is boiling place your gun against the pan on the electrical tape just below the surface of the water......
it should read pretty darn close to 212F.
