Default One quick question.

What is the average life of a competition nitro TC? In other words, how long till the company updates their ride?

Depends what you are looking for.....
The associated is not a real competitive car....

For parking lot bashing, it is nice, for track racing it isn't......

well i'm looking for something that I can do a bit of club racing and maybe some serious racing with. I was looking to get a R40 also but it is in the same boat as the NTC3. Folks keep pointing me to the G4S but my lhs doesn't stock parts for it.

Serious racing is done with cars like:
TM G4S, Serpent 720, Mugen MTX4R, Kyosho V1-RRR.... these cars are all belt driven... shaft driven cars are not found in serious racing......
So if your LHS carries one of these, take this in consideration with your decision.....

My LHS mostly stocks stuff for traxxas and hpi cause they have shelves of those two companies RTR cars and trucks. They also stock losi parts cause the 8 and 8T are selling.

Most good companies update their cars within years. Are you talking about a entire new chassis? or just updates? I know Serpent goes about 4 or 5 years on a chassis. Team Associated.... a decade or more. Upgrades feel like they come out damn near minutes of a new car coming out.
