Effect of diff oils on 1/10th nitro sedans
So I'm somewhat new to on-road racing (I've now run 4 races or so). I've got the XXX Main book and I love the way he discussed each potential setup change and how it affects the six cornering conditions:
A. Too loose while entering a corner (off-Power)
B. Too loose while exiting a corner (on-Power)
C. Car pushes while entering a corner (off-power)
D. Car pushes while exiting a corner (on-Power)
E. Car pushes mid-corner while maintaining neutral power
F. Car is too loose in mid-corner while maintaining neutral power
But because he's focused on 1/10th electric, there is no discussion about the role that diff oils play in 1/10th nitro sedan.
I'm wondering if anyone can point me to reading material on how modifying diff oils affects these six scenarios. Here's the type of information I'm looking for (I'm making this up):
A. Too loose while exiting a corner (on-power)
Generally decreased weight of rear diff oil and increased weight of front diff oil will help this situation because the rear wheels are better able to rotate at independent speeds and thus maintain traction. Blah blah blah

Nitro sedans generally have gear diffs that can be adjusted by changing the thickness of the oil. Personally, I am far too lazy to do something like that.

You are both right, all but a few nitro cars use bevel gear diffs and the JRXS does have a ball diff but that is an electric car where the use off gears diffs is the opposite of nitro cars.
Moving to a thinner diff oil is the same as loosening a diff, allowing greater disparity between the rotation speed of the connected axles/wheels. Going to thicker oil/ tighter has the exact opposite.
I'm sure the XXX manual has info on loose and tight diffs.
When you set up a car you have to make changes in the order of the greatest effect.
For me it is:
#1 is tires
#2 is droop
#3 is Toe angle/Camber
#4 is ride height (usually accompanied by droop adjustment)
#5 is diff
#6 springs/shock position
So if you already played with adjustments 1-4 then I suggest going to a thinner diff oil in the rear.

XXX Main doesn't discuss diffs at all other than to talk about the difference between traditional diffs versus one-ways.

Mate if your running a nitro car the best thing you can do is turn the front into a spool (lock it up solid) and run between 5000 and 10,000wt oil in the rear and adjust the car to suit.
