I went on this same quest last year. Someone posted this solution; Anti-freeze in an old crockpot. Overnight on low.
Works great!

Use Carbon-Off. Spray, Soak, wipe off. The stuff works great. I found it at Smart and Final. Website: http://www.carbonoff.com/Pages/CarbonOff.htm

You can also prevent build up on the pipe by spraying it with Silicon spray when it is clean. After you run just wipe it off with a rag. Works best when pipe is still a little warm. You need to respray each time you wipe it off, but several drivers do that in the SWCS and their pipes look like new.

Seafoam Carbon Cleaner.
Mothers Aluminum and Mag Polish.
The mothers works good because it also really brings the shine of the pipe back. I also just spray down my pipes with Denatured Alcohol and an engine cleaner attachment via compressed air. (It takes any liquid and blasts it through the attachment). Works wonders on cleaning my RC too.
