belts & pulley problems

hi i have an 1:8 scale shock (like a serpent) and was wondering how i could keep my belts to last longer than 2 tanks of fuel at the minute im using 5mm wide belts on plastic pulleys what can i do? would getting alloy pulleys be a good idea? i have been told they gat sharp and can cut the belt!? also can i reinforce the belt? ie put duck tape around them? silly idea but...?

please help, dean

The only thing I can think of is the belts are either to loose or to tight. The other thing is you may have a bur on one of the pulleys, that is tearing the belts. Try reajusting the belts.
