I used some electrical cleaner in a spray can that we have at work. Then, dried them out with shop air. For the lube, i'm not sure. I have a bottle of bearing oil that I got a long time ago but not sure who made it.

Check out the Avid bearing site. Great info on cleaning and lube.

I don't see why not. Yes, it's a project. But a good one when you have nothing better to do.

polishing the shafts shouldt effect the cars ability to roll free. that sits on the fit of the entire build, bearings, breaks, and fit of the belts. the shafts all ride in the bearings

I just use any metal polish, Just enough so the shaft slides in the bearings and it helps free up the drive train....

if you know how a bearing works then the shaft doesnt spin in the metal the inner wall of the bearing spins. so even if u did polish it nothing would happen

Or he is the only one who had the answer you wonted to hear. pollishing something isnt going to help it spin better in a bearing, which is what the mid shaft does, which is what the Main Shaft does. it isnt gonna do shit, stop being stingy and buy Ceramic bearings if you wont your car to coast freely.

staiskosn1 :

If you polish the steel shaft for 1st gear one way bearing, I think it will slip ..... Polish the other section of the shaft to look clean.

If you want your car to coast more freely, consider to use ceramic bearings and use rubber belts. Polishing the shafts won't do....

....btw, wasn't that you who plan to use ceramic bearing ? wasn't that you ask that question ?
