hey guys, I was just wondering how to remove the 1st and 2nd gear pinions off the clutch bell/housing? is there a nack to this?

Pinion remover or a rag on the gear with pliers and be gentle

Mugen makes a tool to remove pinions, you need that tool. For now place a small allen wrench in the whole on the bell and remove with rag and pliers. wear a glove then buy the tool

hey, yeh I've snapped 3 allen keys so far haha..but now I have given up after getting the first gear off with a major fight..went on to the second..tried to grap clutch bell with pliers and rag..slipped and scored the inside of the bell..so I'm just gonna buy a new bell...I think the old gears/bell have seized together over time..

I had someone show me that if you use some of the Mugen super grease on the threads before you put a new pinion on it comes off a lot easier when its time to remove it.

It won't spin off when you run the car? Cause everywhere I see tells me to put a little bit of locktite on the threads to avoid that. It is supposed to be hard to remove.

You should not need any locktite.... When the motor is running, it spins in direction you tighten the gears, therefore they should not spin off. I do not locktite mine, but I also have a tool at talked about above. No issues with getting them removed or installed...

ok well, I have never needed to remove them. I have the Kyosho tool anyway and even with a small bit of locktite it should not be a problem with the proper tool.

My old r40 it had a plastic pinion gear removal tool....it was horrible , mugen has a metal tool and it works like a charm.

I think serpent also makes one , also if the cb is messed up just use some vice grips , it should come off then , you can also get like rubber tipped tools that wont mar as much.

Before I bought the pinion tool the toughest gear to get off was always secound gear. If you use a torch on the 2nd gear pinion and slowly heat it it will come off very easily. Aluminum expands faster that steel and will usually lossen it. Of course use OVEN gloves.
