Is this engine any good?

Well It looks like I am getting into 1/8th scale gas. I wasn't expecting to any time soon but I couldn't pass up this deal. Buddy at my track sold me a MRX-3 with a Novamega SX 21 Evo 4 and a bunch of parts for 200 bucks! My question is : Is this engine any good? I know its an older engine but it has a new rod and fresh pinch. What I mean to say is, was the engine when it was new any good...?

1/8 On-Road

The Evo 4 is plenty fast. Nice purchase, the MRX-3 is a great car.

nice ride.... you and me were in the same situation i guess?... i couldnt pass up a 1/8 mrx4 with servos and evo 5 engine for 500 sgd when the chassis itself costs 900sgd here in singapore. maybe you could change the air filter to the on road one? less restrictive = a small bit of power.... heh...

Thanks lance04. Yea I like it and am REALLY excited. I am going to change out the air filter before I hit the track...

the car come with a buggy filter?? also, i have a MRX-3 too but the spare parts are no longer available here.

Man, $200 for all of that is a good deal. As far as the air filter is concerned, you should check out the Mugen "Airbooster" Air Filter (part #B0010). Good luck in 1/8th scale.

Sweet deal, good on you. Take that fuel filter off, you do not need it. :D

hey gasshuffer, are you talking the silver can thats tapping the pressure line? thats a pressure chamber for regulating the pressure pulses =)

duneland 01-28-2007 01:01 PM

Right, that's a Mugen pressure chamber. Leave it on, but you could shorten the line. Whole Idea is to dampen pulses without the need for longer pressure line.

gashuffer 01-28-2007 04:03 PM

I guess you can leave it on if you like but, all the 1/8 scales I see have the line directly in. Thats just one more thing that can go wrong"leak, clog".Which is bad for the engine..002 :D :sneaky: :tire:

Well I installed the radio equipment today and fired up the engine for a bit of parking lot testing. WOW...engine runs great. Idles forever and winds up fast. This thing is ballistic. When the guy at the hobby shop said "You know the 1/8th is going to ruin 1/10 touring for you" I now see what he meant lol. Cant wait to get to the track next weekend!! :D

gashuffer 01-28-2007 04:44 PM

:ha: someone got BIT :D
