Any body know what this is?

Hey guys,

I picked this up last night in a trade deal cuz it looked kind of different and is fast as @&%$.

Does anyone know what kind of car this is....is it worth a fortune?....lol...i wish!!! Prolly a no-name car that i'll never ever get parts for....lol. I realize that the rear shock is not part of the kit and will be removed...lol. After a real good bath it should pretty good with all that aluminum.

Any help would be cool.

Pics can be seen here:

lOOKS TO ME LIKE IT MIGHT BE A DRAG COUSTOM,WITH THE LOW AMOUNT OF HEAD FINS,AND THE SINGLE SPEED,THATS WHY I THINK IT MIGHT BE SOME KIND OF A DRAGSTER/CAR.
GOOD LUCK!

Looks like it's either a Cook or Delta Eagle maybe??? The car was made around the early eighties. After looking at the front wheel in the last pic , it is probably a Cook. The engine is a NovaRossi square head. Both car and engine were pretty much state of the art 1/8 onroad in the early eighties.

After looking at your second set of pics, I may lean a little toward it being a Delta with Cook front wheels. Cook cars were based on Delta cars except Cook custom made alot of aluminum componets to replace plastic bits on the car especially in the front end. The shocks on the front end are the correct ones for the car and the rear uses the same type shock with a slightly larger body. The shocks were made by Delta and when assembled properly, were some of the best shocks available for the time period. Cook cars had Mini-lite type mag spoke wheels made of white nylon while Deltas had red dish type wheels.

Do you have any idea where i can find information on either of those cars so i can compare them to mine? The angle of the motor has alot of people confused.

Are they worth anything or do i have a big heavy paper weight here?

gomer3245 11-27-2006 04:57 PM

can't tell for sure but i would say that it is a cook car. it has more aluminum on the pod than the delta cars had the shock on the back looks more like a tamiya than a delta or cook as they were aluminum not plastic for more information you might try getting in touch with Ken campbell at delta man. in lorimor ia he can probably help you get in touch with cook as they worked closely together in building carsat that time good luck

I found this link...i believe you are right and it is a Delta Eagle...Nice catch!!

If you scroll down to the Delta Eagle pics, it looks identical to mine but with less aluminum (could have been hopped up). Thanks for your help...that's awesome.

Is this car worth anything or is it a paper weight?

Ahhh.......after looking at the above site, it all came back to me. The car you have is indeed a Cook Eagle. If you look carefully at Delta car you will see two major differences to the car you have:

1. the Delta has the rear shocks mounted inboard operated by a rocker arm type upper arm.
2 The rear bulk head on the Delta was a massive molded plastic piece that was kinda prone to breaking in crashes.

Cook made the bulkhead out of aluminum for better durability and used an Out board rear shock mounting rather than inboard. You have to keep in mind, all cars of this time period were somewhat fragile compared to cars of today. A key factor in winning a race was having a car that would finish a race. I live about 30 miles from where the Cook cars where built and I can tell you that the operation is totally shut down so parts are pretty much gonna be what you can find in the great www or Delta MFG may have a few pieces laying around although I seriously doubt that. As far as what the car is worth,,,,,,I guess that would be what ever someone is willing to pay for it. Some folks collect this kind of stuff and the Cook cars were very low production hand built cars so it might be desirable to some.

So is it a Cook Eagle or a Delta Eagle? I was givin another site that showed a Delta CK840 Super Delta...mine looks alot like that...but as you mentioned, it still has the inbound shocks on it.

This is a very confusing car....even the hobby shop i deal with had no idea what it was....lol

Thanks for all your help P2gee, you have solved the mystery. If you come across any more info on my car, please pass it on.

Even if it's not worth a bunch of cash...i still really like the car and once i have it cleaned up and the aluminum polished....it'll make a beautiful shelf queen.

Any idea of the specs on the engine? or where i can find out?

Thanks again for the help everyone.

P2gee 11-28-2006 06:51 AM

Well, after looking at the CK840 pics I would say you have the Cook version of the Delta Super eagle. If I remember correctly, for an extra charge, Cook would polish all the aluminum pieces to a chrome like luster. When the car was assembled, it was a very nice looking piece. Another thing that points to it being a Cook car are the wheel adapters. Cook adapters where triangle shaped and Delta adapters where usually round.

tfhughes_28 11-28-2006 07:59 AM

Thanks again. I still can't seem to find out a whole lot about this car on the net though....are they a rare breed.......or do people just wanna forget that they even exist....lol.

Personally, it doesn't matter a whole lot cuz for some reason i really like the car and can't wait to take it for a drive. My plan is to take it for a good drive to see what she'll do....then tear it all apart, clean it up and polish it as best i can and prolly make it another shelf queen.

tfhughes_28 11-28-2006 02:20 PM

I found a couple pics of a Cook Eagle and from what i can tell, your right...it's my car. The front end is pretty much exact.

http://www15.ocn.ne.jp/~mrp21jp/sub2.html

Does that mean my car is a Delta Super Eagle modified by Cook or is it a Cook Eagle? This car is still confusing me....lol.

P2gee 11-28-2006 03:45 PM

About the time your Cook car was made, Jim had his operation in Maryland somewhere which probably explains why a Cook car is floating around in your part of the world. Cook later moved his operation back to Groesbeck TX where he was from. Cooks and Deltas were very similar in appearence but the were manufactured and sold out of two different places with different people machining and building them. Cook primarily sourced all the plastic pieces from Delta and designed and machined his own metal parts to complete the car. Your car is definitely a Cook car.

tfhughes_28 11-28-2006 04:34 PM

So how rare is this car that i have?
Would the engine have come in the car (Rossi .21 square head) or did someone install it after the fact but in the same ERA?

Once again, thnx for your help.
