I've got a problem where chunks of foam is being ripped of the rims on both my left and right rear tyres. I've tried different brands/shores.

Is this my driving style or car setup that causes this problem.

O Yes. Always.

Our track has plastic tubing as walls. Not really hard and dont come near the wheels. I have this problem when I stay away from the walls as well.

Comes from hitting stuff. Remedy -- Don't hit stuff! Cracked asphalt can also cause chunking.

It can also happen from simply flipping your car too. Its commonly called "chunking" your tires. You can glue a bit of foam in and true the patch back even with the tire. You can also apply a thin film of CA or shoe goo to the outer edge of the foam. Some foams come with a sidewall sticker too. The 1/8 scale tire have a "tire saver" that protects the sidewall, but I have never seen them for touring car tires.

to me that looks like a "body tuck chunk". this happens when the wheel wells arent cut large enough, so when you get hit, take axial load(i.e. turning), or whenever the body moves around, the body doesnt have enough clearence to return to a normal position without hitting the tire. so it rubs and can make a tire look like a "normal" chunk.

EVERY ONE DOS THIS FROM TIME TO TIME BUT IN TIME YOU WILL DRIVE BETTER AND YOU WONT CHUNCK AS MUCH AND IT WILL FELL GREAT NO MATER WHAT PLACE YOU FINISH.1/12 IS THE WORST FOR THIS.

when truing your tyres, try rounding off the outside edge as i found that this helps to stop chunking a lot.
oh, and not hitting stuff helps too

I always glue the sidewalls on my rear nitro tyres and it usually saves my tyres from chunking or if you have acess to a tyre truer try cutting them down smaller, this can help prevent chunking

Its good to see that im not the only one with this problem.

Now, I have a major concern. It seems that to many people knows my driving style. and you havent even seen me on the track . (flipping,hitting stuff).

Well, now I know what the problem is, better start working on my driving then.

soft foam + hitting stuff = chuncks
soft foams + not hitting stuff = no chuncks
it may look good when your car is flying through the air but its not good for your tyres

if you decide to glue the outside edge of the tires, it makes the sidewall stiffer and the tire will act like a harder shore. you might have to make some adjustments to compensate.
