Help ! how can this happen?
 

setting up a friends Kyosho landmax i think, 1/8th scale rally car with a pull start.
somtimes when it runs it goes backwards. how? i had smoke out the exhaust the pull start will not let the engine go backwards but it drove backwards. switch it off and restart its ok!!!

I know that somtimes an airplane engine will start backwards something to do with backfiring but I have never heard of it happing to a car engine maybe your carb settings are causing it to load up?????

i think that what is happening is caused by preigniting of fuel mixture

as piston is coming up it fires too early and shoots piston down before it gets to the top

try a different plug that is colder another head shim and check needle settings

How can the engine run backwards the pull start would lock up!!

i put the diffs in my storm in wrong before and it went backwards could that be the problem

no if i stop it and restart it its ok goes forwards!!!

thats bizarre

i think it may be time to pull engine out and start checking the pullstarter
