How do starter boxes work?
 

Hi i currently have a pull start on my thunder tiger ts4n v2 and was wandering how the starter boxes work what do they connect to?

DO i remove the pull start?

a starter box is simply a box with an electric motor connected to a rubber wheel that pokes out the top of the box. When you put your car on top of it and push down it activates the motor and the rubber wheel contacts your engine's flywheel thus turning over the engine.
yes you will have to remove the pullstart and install a backplate.
the boxes can run on 2 7.2v stick packs or a 12v lead acid battery or gel cell.

No, starter boxes and pull starts don't exclude each other. It's perfectly possible to start a pull start engine with a starter box.

I'll just reiterate what Qlone has said. Removing the pullstart is not necessary. In fact doing so would simply be more work as you'd then have to find or make a backplate for the engine.

The benefits of removing a pull-start would reduce the parasitic drag on the motor as well would weigh less so the car would perform better all around with that removed.

But yeah it would be more work and youd have to track down a bump-start / standard backplate.

if you file down the pin on the crankshaft that engages the pull start, and replace the backplate, the engine will run a little faster since you aren't spinning the oneway bearing in the pull start. this involves taking the crank out of the motor so it isn't as simple as keeping the pullstart on but the motor will perform better. i don't think you can put a non pullstart backplate on the motor without filing that pin down because it will rub the new backplate.
