Default front diff overdrive

How do you determine if you need to overdrive the front diff or run it the same ratio as the rear? I know when you over drive it you can run a smaller front tire diameter but what track conditions prompt to you to use this set-up?

I don't think there is a track condition that would warrent a certain overdrive.
Normally rear tires wear more than the front. So some people run a smaller front tire than the rear this is where overdrive is needed.
