I did my homework, need a grade

I was into R/C when I was younger. I had a nitro truck.

I am going to get back into it.

I am going to be bashing. I have no LHS. I am going to buy a 1/10th scale touring car nitro. I want it to be fast(50 MPH minimum)

I want to build it. I will not race.

I have nothing, starting from scratch.

My budget 425.00 for everything.

I do not need to build but I would think you get more for your money.

I am not finding alot of reviews. What cars should I be looking at. And who should I buy it from

nothing wrong with hpi if you get the R40.. I've never had a cen and haven't every really heard anything good about them either.

the reason I didnt mention the r40 or any other "kit" is because they start at $250 then your going to need a starter box, engine, pipe, and other misc...

kelso77 04-22-2006 04:02 PM

thanks alot I think I will get that car

You might check out the Team Magic Le Mans G4 RTR. Comes with a nice Futaba radio with steering dual rate adjustment, .15 engine installed., K-Factory pipe, full ball bearings and more. Your choice of a GTP or Lola painted body. Winner's Circle RC has this for $390.

The G4's are supposed to be easy to drive, this is not the G4S race car that is currently out, but the G4 Evo version (prior model to G4S). If you decide to get racy with it after a while, you can get the G4s upgrade kit for it.

It's not a kit, but RTR is about the only way I see of coming in under your price range.

Futaba 3PM - $129.99

Budget exceeded about $100. You can always get a cheaper radio with the same specs. That is the best equipment for the lowest price.

still need a starter box & battery, rx battery, charger, glo igniter, body...
I'd say its at least $200 over.....

Buy in the states and get lower pricing. Skyline pipe $54.95 from me. Most other stuff cheaper also. Make sure where you buy from before making the purchase. Overseas is most times more expensive and harder to work with if a problem occurs. Some have warehouse here in states but you are still working out problems with someone overseas. Save money and headaches and buy from US dealers.

My 2 cents and good advice! :tire: :tire: :tire:

Oh By the way another example... the G4 RTR is $30.00 cheaper from the dealer in my signature...me... hehe... but how to save money if that is a car you like also... just shows you you need to check around before you make any purchase on a car you select.

Good luck... this is the best hobby ever.. whether in parking lots or race tracks this hobby is the most fun!

if you're considering a change, the new g4s would be a good choice, plenty of hopp ups standard for good value and is a good performer :D

phillyfan5420 04-24-2006 04:48 PM

if you want 50+mph i dont think the ntc3 can do 50. i think the ntc3 does like 40mph and with a limited budget you wont be able to get it to go that fast. traxxas claims their nitro 4-tec can go 60+ mph. another good , user friendly car is the hpi rs4 3 18ss. in issue #11 of rc driver they did a review on the schumacher fusion 21. the car looks sick. with a .21 in a 1/10 chassis and a 3-speed ......the car topped out at 62.1mph!!! the r40 is great but i think it would well exceed your budget.

You can make any rc car go as fast as you want. Every pro rc car released today can accept different motors and gearing. With that your budget is the sky.

But for a few dollars you can change your gearing and get 60mph no problem. I ran my racer2 long time ago and I thought it would go 50mph , but I got a cop to clock it and it did 42. All I needed to do is swap the gearing and tada , im sure it could do 60 , but its not really about that.

I have my r40 the other night when I was braking in a motor. I put the wrong pinion gear on 2nd and its probably the highest the car can accept and im sure it was pulling 60mph , it just kept going and going. Not bad acceleration but the motor is very fast.

With a regular RTR motor when you gear for top speed your going to get some slowness in acceleration. So its a trade-off , but if you like going fast , there yah go. But in reality youll want to probably keep it stock , cause itll go slower , so wrecks wont be devastating. As well it will be able to zip around instead of go out for super long top speed runs.
