Default Product ideas

Hello there fellow RC racers! I need your help. Don’t worry; I don’t need you to tell me what the best car/motor/charger is! All I need is some ideas.

Let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Chris and I’m a 21 year old Mechanical Engineering student in England. I’ve been into RC for a few years now, tried a bit of everything and I’m amazed by the engineering that goes into the hobby.

I need an idea for a product to design as part of my final year portfolio. For all my engineering knowledge, I have the imagination of a frozen cabbage! So to help you help me just take a couple of minutes thought to think of something that would make your live easier with some aspect of the hobby. It doesn’t have to be possible with today’s technology as long as it’s sensible. It can be a new class of vehicle, a new means of propulsion or something you’ve had to bodge because the product wasn’t there.

Thanks in advance guys and I look forward to hearing some of your amazing ideas.

Chris

How about this:

R/C Fuel Injection System:

-5 Channel Radio, 3 channels are for micro servos to control the high speed, low speed and idle needles

- Telemetry: Engine Temp, Carb air temp, Carb air volume, Oxygen sensor for exhaust and Engine RPM

The data gets sent from the car to the transmitter (ie. Spektrum). A micro-processor in the transmitter analyzes the data and adjusts the needles accordingly to optimize engine performance.

This is rather oversimplified. Read up on one of the Bosch fuel injection systems to get a better idea of all the things you need. This book might be helpful: http://www.performanceproducts.com/p...ine+Management

Good luck!

How about audio telemetry though an earpiece connected to your radio or other receiver.

Remote starter. (I got one to work on my T-Maxx a while back using the 3rd channel on the TQ3 radio and an old ESC)

Self tuning mixture adjustments. Maybe computer controlled? Don't know how you could do that one.

Just a couple ideas off the top of my head.

cool! im an applied physics student myself...

-what about studying the combustion of the engine and reseraching on new methods of fluid motion such that it can increase effeciency of a nitro engine. in other words, better porting..

-electronically adjustable shock damping

-what about a cooling system for nitro so that we can lean our engines a bit

-controlled nuclear fussion combustion engine?? ( probobly 100yrs from now or less)

-a new kind of differential that can be adjusted easily that can be used for nitro and has the characteristics of an oil differential, this should allow powerful engines we have today to work with ease ( i hate getting my hands full of oil with i change the diff oil in my rrr)

-a new kind of transmission system?! better than shaft and belts... (a good start might be a car whose clutch gears are transferring energy to two spur gears. both spur gears then transfer power to front and rear wheels. dunno if that's any good... )

sorry, cant think of anything cool.. my mind is filled with wave equations right now.. hehehehe

5 speed manual transmissions? lol

I've always thought about fuel injection and a mini distributor, so you can start your car with the turn of a key/push of a button, and not have to prime it, wait for the glow plug to heat up, or try to keep pull-starting the engine. Maybe include that with a remote starter on the transmitter?
