The 16t steel 1st gear won't fit verry wel unles you modifi the holes in the
chassi plate . otherwise the engine is not in line whit the spur gears.

It was intended for the 710.

This is true, you should not need the 16t with the 720.

This is not the correct reason why we do not use the 16t. The pitch of the 16t is wrong and will burn up the spurs. If you want to put a new 16t every run then it will be o.k..... We only run the 17,18 1st and the 22,23 in 2nd..

reason for wanting a 16T steel is the wear of the pinion. spur is kinda eating it faster than i thought it would (weird, plastic chewing alum. - ). maybe its my mesh but its the best i could do.
i know its kinda normal - the pinion wear, and steel even gives me a disadvantage coz it will have more rotational mass due to steel weight than alum. but for weekend runs, i think the steel will be more of an advantage to me

hey edgar, you've got pm...

I run the 16 quite often, and have never had gear trouble. I have used it on my 710 & 720 with no problem. Winners Circle (gasrccar.com) usually has them in stock.

Well the 16 usually is worn out by the spur. The spur then has the gap increase and then rips through the spur after it looks like the saw blade. I personally do work on a lot of motors and have had that experience every time we use it. The new drive train of the 720 has been re worked from the 710 so the 17t is like running a 16t. A 7.0 final drive(17t pinion and 61t spur) for first is this pretty high and for most track is way more than sufficient. If you need more torque you need to look at the clutch setup your running. Any good clutch setup will wear the pinion and then cause a failure...

Novarossi clutch -yellow shoe (clutch bell gap .80) 1/8th spring Silver 1.4mm tighten down, standard weights.. Softer clutch decrease the gap from .8 to .7...

zx12 mega picco- yellow shoe (clutch bell gap .70)1/8th spring Silver 1.4-1.6 tighten down , standard weights... Softer clutch decrease the gap from .7 to .6
