Have anyone notice any major difference in performance between the mbx5 and mbx5r? From one of these posts, someone mentioned that the parts between the mbx5 and mbx5r are almost identical.

No not "identical", they were just saying that you can put all of the MBX5R upgrades on the MBX5 chassis. But if you don't currently own a Mugen your better off to go on and get the new R kit, because the suspension and handling is so much better. And for what it cost to fully upgrade the old kit you will honestly save money in the long run by going on and getting a MBX5R. Good Luck!

I have the mbx5 and i wanted to know if the -R is worth the upgrade. Also, if I upgrade, would it be identical to the -R?

Actually, what would be the minimum parts list to get my mbx5 to handle like the mbx5r?

Also, from doing a little more research on the 5R, I am seeing the main reason for the suspension upgrade is for the extra droop. Can someone explain droop in details and how it affects the car. Also, is droop the same as rebound stop?

Minimum parts- Would have to be Front and Rear shock towers, F & R shocks, Front Upper and Lower arms, and Rear lower arms. That's about as close to an R as you will get the MBX5 for minimal $$$ To give you an idea of how far you still are from the R, here is a link to the complete upgrade comparison list!!

The servo saver is also well worth the $6...just shorten the stock tube with a file...takes 5 minutes and it has less slop than an "R".

I haven't measured it out, but I had to limit my EPA more after I installed it. It had quite a bit more steering throw from just that one part.

Rebound stop and droop are somewhat the same, or atleast they work torward the same principal. "Full Droop" would be when the arms and shocks are at full extension, as when the buggy is in the air, the new R has alot more droop(suspension travel) than the previous MBX5. Now you can limit your rebound or droop using the "droop screws" which are set screws located in all 4 lower arms. As I have stated on previous pages I choose not to use the droop screws as they dig into the aluminum chassis and get out of adjustment. I remove the set screws completly from my lower arms and set droop using a black rubber o-ring internally in my shock body. I simply place the o-ring on the shock shaft under the piston before I place it in the shock body.

Like I said before, I had to limit mine to get to the 10mm figure on the "R" setup sheet with a stock prospec chassis...I can't see where the newer chassis would make any difference at all.

Definitely going to do the o-ring deal next time I do the shocks though. That's how we roll in the Tamiya Minis.
