Tamiya connectors do work but they won't be as reliable.

ignore the electrical tape. I soldered the wire together before I stuck the heat shrink on. it's fine. ugly but fine. besides, your car you drive to work is full of electrical tape.

I run my box off a 12v snowmobile starter battery. No lack of nuts there. But as far as connectors go there are better things.

see all those other connectors in there? you think they're any better? if you're going to worry about the battery connectors it's a must to replace the rest. or all you did was waste good connectors on the battery connections.
it's only as good as the weakest link. and I see plenty of weak links miles worse than the tamiya connectors.

you're also not using the box continuously like it's a car. if your engines aren't starting that easy to where you are running the starter so long to heat up the connectors, you've got bigger issues than a starter box connectors. take it to someone that knows how to tune the engine for you. you're band aiding other problems. that's my 2 cents.

I remove all the connections and solder wires directly to respective relay. Changed out all wires to deans wet noodle. Its probably overkill but everyone said to do it, so I did. I have never once had a motor, battery or any of my connections fail so it must be worth it.

Take a look ard at the tracks. There is a reason why we don't put Tamiya plugs on starter boxes but u can do what you want.
I re-wired my starter box FYI.
